Okay, the last post on vsti was very helpful but people like myself still trying to figure out how many of the 'tricks' are accomplished still need that little extra info
What is the best type of sound to apply bit crusher to: is it a simple clean pad or stab from any synth or just a freq taken from an editor?,etc...
Please bear with me

I like to use it on 80'ish stabs from Pentagon VST. Though atmospheric pads sound through it great as well

You can use the Crusher on Everything.
If your game is Tech-trance and dark stuff then you can try processing Drum parts or Loops for an agressive approach
if you have some samples in your track and u want to add some dirty feel to it put it on there too
if you put some nice reverb or Delay on it, you can put it on the leading synths parts
(try passing a pad+the bitcrusher through a gate)
and it's done before but it's always cool to put it on the whole track at certain points

Todays tip of the day as far as I am concerned is Bitcrusher... As u can see I am a beginner( advanced beginner to be more precise)
This fx never quite got my attention.. I think its in the name or something... a bit like many things in life.
Big Big thanks... |

I have to agree with Psysex on the use of the bit crusher or drums... Even if you use just a little bit of the bitcrusher, it can make your drums pop stand out. And try automating the bitcrusher for some interesting effects...
As for effects in general... Ohmboyz delay is my personal favorite delay plugin, even more than the stock ones that come with logic... Although I sometime will use the Ohmboyz in conjunction with the Logic delay if I really wanna warp something... I use the phaser effect for multiple things, and it sometimes makes an excellent Band Pass filter. Distortion is also a vital effect for me, because I like my sounds clean yet a little dirty at the same time. I use either distortion or overdrive on at least one lead and occasionally on my bassline...
Also, the Antares Filter is a personal godsend to me... With that thing I have turned boring drum loops into really interesting synthy sounds.
I don't know how to use vocoders that well, so I haven't experimented with those yet...

this week i used it on a voice sample that sounded too clean
but also used on :kick,bass,percussion,lead,etc.
especially like the downsample option.
i think of it as a harmonic exploder..,

The SX bitcrusher STINKS, if only for the simple problem that you can't really see what you're doing other than twisting the knobs (that could pass if this was an analog effect, but it isn't). If you want to see a proper bitcrusher effect, Logic's internal one is just a lot better.
But hey, if it sounds good, everything goes. Don't limit yourself to using an effect only on things you know it'll sound good with, sometimes counter-intuitive sounds are best.

Who cares if you can see what you are doing!! You can hear it and thats what counts - no point in wasting cpu on flashy graphics that mean nothing!
I guess the Cubase one assumes that you have enough knowledge to know what a bitcrusher does without having to have it drawn out graphically! Doesn't take a genius! |

I think it's true, I've already listened a lot of progressive (trance/house) and electro producers using it on their kicks and percussion elements. Try on pads with a looooooooong time reverb and bitcrusher as well, just put some Gate plug-in on this channel and trigger it using some HH pattern or percloop. Have Fun. |
