Do you people follow a certain line when making music in order to create a specific sound and style or do you go with the flow and follow your heart doing whatever you feel like at the moment???
I have many tracks and trough time i moved from psy to progressive to dark psy ETC...
Of course the BPM chabged according to the style.
Now i found that if i want to make a full motorik music d.j. or live set it will a bit of a problem to do because of the reason of not keeping a certain line in my style.
Did someone bumped into this kind of a problem?

It depends how you mix them! and how many tracks you have to pick from!
if you was making an album it would be
optimal to produce those tracks especially for that album, just so you keep a spirit over it! a line as you call it =) |

I can never tell what my track will be either. 90% of the times I start doing something very different from what I end up doing. But I never intend making music for the dancefloor, so it's not a big problem.
All of my tracks sound like they were all made by a different person. On the one hand this is good, on the other hand it's bad. But I don't think this is really a problem. You could make some transitional tracks that are somewhere between the extreme ends of the kinds of music you've made. |

my personal opinion is that when u will fall for that special style u will know n then just flow with it .
or when u will have a major release in a big label u will know that it works it sounds good so why shouldent u keep the music in that direction?
but thats just the way i see it.
i had this prob 2 since all of my tracks r in diffrent styles but latly i menaged too stay foot on the pumpy progressive n after testing a track or two on the dance floor i was surprised too see that it works n made the decision to focus on that specific style.
ooooopppppss too long sorry!
cheers n good luck |

motorik: maybe you JUST didnt find your line...keep searching. it may suddenly hit you after finishing a track which is so near to you and which will touch you in a different way than your other tunes. then you might probably say "thats what i wanna do for long!" and you do it. maybe it changes later as well...which is not a bad thing of course. but to get to this point, its needed to do whatever you think before;)
its not a problem anyway i think...diversity is a gift...better than stucking on your music-path.

Unh..I think its a matter of be honest with u. If you are having fun creating different style track so thats right.
I dont think people have to be unnatural, and create just 'tradicional trance'. We spend a lot of time and work on something that most of the time don bring us to much money, only pleasure, so be yourself.
Last year Laurent Garnier played here. He made a long set where he start from house, get into techno and pass into rock n roll too. It was his trip. He share it with the crowd and it works very well...
So...Go ahead Motorik !! |

Hello motorik, my old friend.
I firmly believe humans must imitate before they can innovate. Because in all pop music idioms, palatability is based upon the hybridization of prior collective styles and ideas. In order to become that logical progression, that next step or phase in musical development, one must assimilate the past.
Experimental music is different, and requires no cultural foreknowledge. Experimental music is also boring to me. |

brOd my old friend.long time.
Am i happy to see you here or what!!!!
Good to have your wisdom around here...
welcome to the community my friend.
Great man had come to town....
Cheers for your reply...very philosophical.
I don't try to make new experimental music i just follow my heart and make my style darker or groovier with more melodies and less melodies , faster or slower, low deep bass or groovy one...and thats the change of style i make ,,,,yet it's very hard to connect them all together in a D.J set and thats was my first question...if i should keep a certain guideline for that reason only.
salute br0d

motorik my friend, just keep making different styles. in a dj-set you don't have to play only your tunes.
when you decide you want to release an album, concentrate on what you are best at (from all the styles u have made). i mean if you make average proggy tunes but killer full-on, then i think u should stick with full-on (only an example).
take care, c u soon

well sometimes u have an idea for a track u try to make it
sometimes everything work out and u get what u wanted but other times u come across nice line\melody\loop\sample\idea\ideas and flow with it to something very different from what u imagined in this cases its all about the moment floeing in the forst case u try to make sounds that will fit the main idea |
