You all are pretty much aware of all the fm leads out there, guess its pretty common.
But its still sexy as hell.
Theres this one that ive been trying to get for such a long time now and i just cant get it right.
It comes in after a few seconds.
I know how to make fm/saw leads and all that but i somehow never end up with this type of bouncy, snappy, spreading type of sound.
Just the ordinary flat electric sound with a little panning.
So my question is not how to make that particulary sound, rather how to get that groovy/bouncy/spreading effect.
Guess that pretty much comes with making the sound as well, but yeah, you get my point

i think thats from NL2x. when i owned it there was this sound on patch #34, if i'm correct, but i'm not sure if this one is factory patch, because i took it second hand lol
now, i really understood what the real fm is only after i bought the first hardware synth. didn't manage to get that fat, sharp metallic sound out of software.

Yeah, pretty sure you can get something close to this in Albino, but not sure how quite yet. I'll perform experiments and report my results.
Also, this thread reminded me of a joke. Why did the pirate have the steering wheel in him pants? 'Argh, it's drivin' me nuts!'

I think its hard to say if this patch is a virus or NL. If its hard to get this sound from software its because the FM index does not go high enough. Part of this sound is having the FM index higher than what most other forms of music would want. Thats why you can't really get these sounsd from a DX7 series synth.
Albino should get you close, I'll try to post a reaktor synth that has a more extreme FM index.

Just play and tweak the filter cutoff by hand a little bit. The bouncy effect is from tweaking the cutoff by hand and not automation.
The biggest part that effect the sound for these type of patches are the different between the pitch of osc1 and 2 and the FM amt.
If you look inside the synth you can see FM amt is just scaling the amplitude of the modulating oscilator. Most vsti don't let you scale it enough though for this kind of sound.
Another thing that sucks with not having FM amt go high enough is you can't do much with tri/sins as modulators like you can on nord/virus.
