Hey guys I'm struggling a lot with building some proper FM acid sounds. i can make some, but not like those cracking metallic ones your hear in a lot of modern psytrance these days. Maybe someone in here can help me too get started?!
I have a virus ti by the way. Thanks for your time

like the one around 1.28 ? try to use a sine to modulate a complex waveform depend the synth but it can sound more gritty that way insteed of fming a saw for example. wavetable are great for this, or hard synced osc, it need to me harmonically rich ..just some stuff to experiment it might help

you can get similar to the sound at 1.28 with massive and probably many synth including the virus . if u have massive i can send you a preset so you can replicate on the virus if u want

didn t really check the one in outsiders tune but should be similar enough? probably need fine tuning, experiment with pitch difference between carrier and osc , the wavetable, fm amount

there is always sweet spot at the perfect fifth (7 semitones) on some patch/synth it can sound really good.
on my midi line it sound a lil better, the 36 semi tone preset ,wavetable position at zero and pitch at +7 insteed of -12

lately i have made really great fm leads by using overdrim/distortion to generate harmonics.. open more intresting tonal possiblity and sound more fresh than these overused sound. basically what you do is a standar fm lead except that you use waveform that generate less harmonic.. like you fm a triangle wave at moderate level..it will sound like shit yes, kind dark .. but then you bring it a good overdrive and you tweaks the fm amount and overdive level to have good amount of harmonics and balanced sound... lot of great spot, lot of different caractere.. by playing with the fm amount, waveforms and the overdrive ...
on waveforms that are rich like saw distorting them when fmed sux ,for me it s usually too much cause i talk big amount of distortion..naturally thet quality of the result will depend a lot of the quality of the distortion used ..

nothign really special but it sound great..
