Do you evene know the Rhino of old? Most of their music was pretty much progressive in it's early stages... Rhino was always about pushing a style that was often slower and a bit more minimal than the other crazy Goa styles going on... ine thing Rhino taught me, and I expect many toers, was that it does not have to be a 145 BPM bender of a song full of billions of synths lines that are so obvious and almost boringly over the top... they made true psychedellic music in a very minimal way... And I must say that James Monroe and Geroge Barke play a lot of psychedelic progressive, which is much more to the original psy sound than the full on shit pulled out by the like of Phonokol, HOMmega, B.N.E/YoYo, T.I.P World and such cut n paste euro trance labels... Rhino is not going to bring back the old, but they hopefully will continue pushing the nevelope in make good psy music, nlike ost of the old acts and labels still aroudn from that era... |

You sound very sure of this - where did you get your information? Personally I would be very surprised if any new music was made available on this site. Which is good - people who have only found psy since 2000 need to be made aware of the history of the scene IMO. There's always been an imbalance in favour of the 'latest and greatest', meaning so much good stuff gets forgotten.

I will tell you that I"m not going to debate on personal opinion with you... I do know about the old F.R as they were one of the first labels I fell in love with in 1996 when I was living in the U.K. I was very distraught when my car was stolen when I was moving house in 2002 and I lost over 2oo goa and psy cd's icnlduing 95% of the F.R cd's.
hence my excitement the label is coming back in some form.
I'm sorry if my comment confused you... they were my opinions and if you don;t agree that is fine... but instead of be a precocious wank, kepp them to yourself for me? |

Just thought you might like the input of someone who was there at the time releasing on the label, and is in contact with people probably quite a lot closer to this project than you are. That's all Old-school psy was (in general) a lot faster and more full-on than you seem to remember, Flying Rhino included (up until they went with BMG as distributor, anyway), although it's true they did also release artists such as Darshan who had (and still has  ) quite a different sound.
And if you can't take a little joke about your well-known hatred for all recent psy then I don't know, go for a walk in some woods or something... lighten up

yes i agree with colin oood.
i for one know the guys from rhino and used to get my recs from their office back in the good old days.
so i think i know a little.
darshan has been poppin his head up again in the u.k scene so maybe he's blown the dust off his key boards and is up for fun.
and by the way aussie bloke.....james munro plays the most housey progressive non psychedelic music i have heard from one of the psychedlic dudes of old and u should know better coming from roots like zenon recs..
i mean...honestly.keep it real. |

i went to a flying rhino party here in mexico with gus till and was very disapointed by this guy attitude. not music..
can u believe they left at 800 am and unplugged the dj who wanted to continue the party??? he sucksss ....

The new FR will not be able to sell any old releases even IF the guy bought the right to the name.
All artists got their rights 100% back to their own tracks when old FR closed down. So there's no way the new "owner" can sell their old releases legal.
Too many speculations here.
Let FR sleep in peace. There will never be a new FR. James, Dominic and George have no intention to revive FR so this new guy's "bright idea" is just a scam. There will be no old releases re-released.

so then explaine why one user on www.psynews.org who was helping out with developing the new site said that they are putting up all the old stuff to be downloaded?
remember, this is somebody who has worked with this new label... so I'd say he has far more insider knowledge...
unless you can give a quot from James, Dominic or George directly, then you have no evidence to say anything on their behalf.
if they have something to say on this, then get them to say it. until the I"ll happily wait for 1/11/2007 and if I can get the old stuff which was stolen along with my in 2002 again, I will. |

I have the evidence that I am one of the old artists releasing on FR and when they closed down I got a letter from their Lawyers that I now own all the music (legal rights) myself that I released with FR. It's basic knowledge that when a label close down all the rights go back to the artists unless someone else buy those rights and pay the artists for such a right.
And as for now I have not been contacted by this new FR guy and asked to participate by selling my rights to him. I doubt all other FR artists have heard from him too.
I am also a good friend of James and in contact with him and he is not involved in this. I will ask him to comment on it.
Just please stop the specualations. IF this new so-called FR guy release the old releases he will get into a big mess legally.
