They usual contain wave and mp3 files for the music, and sometimes a video or other bonus stuff. You can easily compress the waves to flac.           You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me?

so the main difrence between flac and wav is the size of the file

all the rest is the same

is this the end of the WAV era????           -=[PsYcHeDeL|C Music it's Fantastic]=- |RoYeC|

No, as mentioned before, FLAC very well supports tags (and much more). That is a major bonus.           http://enjoys.it

Music is not produced using this format, so WAV will be around for a while.

But the biggest thing to consider is the lack of personal media players that support the format.

I use Jetaudio for listening to all my music on my pc and you can use it to rip cd's to flac and convert flac back to wav.

This is the think FLAC isn't competing heads on with WAV or mp3.

You can't edit FLAC audio very easily so WAV and aIFF are going to stay for a while. And because of the lack of FLAC players CD and mp3 isn't directly effected either.

But for lossless storage FLAC is great.

You broke 2 ipods by (trying to) installing Rockbox? Seems like you were either too lazy to read the manual or just making it up.

You can edit FLAC easily, it's just that your favourite program might not support it.           http://enjoys.it

I spent a lot of time and read the manual several times.

I take offence to you calling me lazy.

I am new to the forum so I don't know how you can really deduce that.

So if I send some mulitracks of a band I recorded which need some edits, stretches and pitch shifts, will you do that in FLAC?

Maybe you should change your handle.

No chilling spirit here.

Well, you can re-upload the original firmware to the ipod, so I don't see how you could break them (apart from "bricking", but that would not be Rockbox's fault. No idea if it is even possible.)? But this goes pretty offtopic.

There are many sound/audio editors with FLAC support. Of course also free and open-source ones. It's no problem at all to edit FLAC-sourced audio, why do you think so? It's just a matter what formats a tool can import.           http://enjoys.it
