fl studio question about playing samples

hi there

i'm just bouncing down parts of a song because my cpu overloads (too many vsts).
i imported them and added them to the playlist, now my question is: does the wav file only play when i set the start point on the playlist before or at the beginning of the sample? i always found this quite time consuming, because you have to hear the whole sample from the beginning to listen to and change something (f.e. a vst synth playing beside it) somewhere in the middle of the sample.
i hope you understand what i mean...hope there is some solution i didnt know...

thanks in advance...

It will only trigger it to play when it reads the note, the way you are doing it.

Here is what you want to do, and it will help your music sound a lot more pro (you'll see you have a lot more options this way!):

(From the play list) Select File and go to View, and select Swap Panel.

This will give you a new window in the playlist.

Highlight a track (just click on the pattern name) from the playlist patterns (such as Pattern 10) and then click up in the new panel, it should insert the pattern clip in there.

Now here is the trick you want:

Drag your wav sample over to this new panel, you will see the full wav now and allow you to move to any part of it.

When I said it'll make your music sound more pro I mean that you can now apply FXs to only certain parts of clips and so on - a lot more granular control

Hope this helps

Also, one note about performance -

If you don't already do this, I recommend it:

Turn on "Smart Disable" for all FXs (maybe not delays)

Quickest way to do this is from the FLS main menu

Tools -> Macros -> Switch smart disable for all plugins

It will attempt to turn off the plugins when they are not used, as opposed to them being loaded 100% of the time.

To toggle Smart Disable on individual plugins go to your mixer, pull down the menu for an FX, and you should see Smart Disable (check next to it means Smart Disable is enabled)

On my "bigger" songs (tons of FX) I have to use Smart Disable if I want good latency!

Another tip is to use the Send Channels (in your Mixer they are the last 4) for combining "standard" effects (like reverb for all of your percussion, etc). If you're not sure what this is, look it up in the manual. It is a must and it helps keep a uniform sound

Why make things more complicated then they are? If you use a sample, just use it as an audio clip. You can paint audioclips in your playlist (at the bottom). Audioclips start from wherever you make them start.

btw: if you're hooked on good visual display, consider using ableton as a main sequencer and use FL in rewire.           http://www.soundcloud.com/bandarlog

if you bounce the sample and re-import it in a sequencer channel, yeah, it will start playing only if read from the triggering point.

yeah, use the audio section of the playlist.
and i would suggest instead of exporting the audio of the vst's, to record them using the record function of the mixer.
then it will appear in the audio section directly after recording, at the right place. And it will play right like you want, without have to start from its beginning.           ____

mk47 - there is nothing more

set your playlist in a loop mode for the part u want to record.. possible 2 bars before and after is good idea.. now open the mixer , select the channel you want to record and hit down bottom (lttle floppy painted) , this should open dialog box so you name the future file. well , thats it , hit record and play the part as soon you are done the audio clip is in its place           www.sattelbattle.com

50% out of topic but..

occasionally my audio clips loop back...

it usually happens on 8m or 16m wavs..

i mean.. i put the wav i want as an audio clip in the lower playlist ONCE and after its done it keeps looping playing from the beginning and that's forever..

i somehow managed to work a solution (the specific times this happens) but did anyone ever have the same problem ?

what could it be ? i've digged everything to find but no luck...           extreme

off topic..
hey tsabi... i'm just discovering the new sample edit functions in FL7 with the Edison... it's too good to be true. Something i always wished is to be able to take a part of the sample and use it back in a sampler channel... now it's simple as 1.2.3 ...

fl rocks !           ____

since i use 6 still...

do you meen something like "make unique" feature ? this one takes audio slice and bounce it seperatly so u can defintly do it in 6 as far i can tell.. what i realy intrested is did they add "offline process" for fx?? this is realy what i wait for more then anything , then i can stop use other programs to finish my trakcs

p/s - also nice feature is that u can take any slice from slicer tool and drag it to new sampler channel the fastest way to get hihat out of a loop , word out of sentence etc.           www.sattelbattle.com

what i meant is something like you said about take a slice from slicer. I didn't know that. It's kinda the same with the Edison(audio editor).
I just checked, no offline processing really possible. but you can trick it... with again this edison yeah, also i really recommend you to check out TapeIt2... ok, it's still some clics more that offline processing, but you can very quickly record a wet sound and reuse it back in the project.           ____
