hi guys,

1.) i'm producing for 2 years with FL Studio now. but working with patterns confusing me more and more. i hope another DAW is much more well-arranged and above all more flexible! in my HONEST opinion psytrance is too complex to work handy with FLS. what do you guys think? do you think Cubase or Ableton Live is more adequate for producing complex structures e.g.?

2.) so i decide to try another DAW now. which one would you recommend? Cubase or Ableton Live?

p.s. unfortunately there is no demo for cubase out there so i have have to ask at first

I don't have much experience with FL Studio, but a lot of artists (also artists who make quite "complex" music) use it , so I think it's possible.

In terms of arrangement I think Ableton Live is much more well-arranged, intuitive, straightforward and easy on the creative process than Cubase, but I mainly base that on experiences with older versions of Cubase some years ago. It's basically a matter of taste, and I think you will be happy with both Cubase and Ableton Live.

I can personally recommend Ableton Live though - not only is it easy to use, it's also cheaper than Cubase, and some of the new features like Max For Live as well as the upcoming partnership with Serato proves that the possibilites in the future with this DAW are very promising.

im only on fl out of habit. It is not such a big burden to learn a new DAW. it is almost fun.
With REwire you can have the best of both worlds

In my case I started with Fruity Loops. But the arrangement view killed me out!
Was not accurate for me.
Then I tried Cubase. I liked it a lot.
But it was over complicated on the sends and inserts.. side chaining. Stereo.. mono.
It was boring to use F3, F9.. F11 all the time.

Now I use Ableton Live.
It's perfect for me!

there are all good ,in my experience in cubase i focus more on sound quality and less about experimentation or on making music like in live , from a sound engineer point of view ,mixing ,production ..it s c5 all the way for me ,if i use a other sequenceur all the files will end up in c5 at some point

I started with something called FastTrackerII, then moved on to rebirth, reason and then finally cubase. It's good to try and experiment with different daw's to see which one fits you the best.

I've tried Logic and I use Ableton for live show but to me Cubase 5 is the real deal especially when it comes to audio-editing, I don't like the whole looping and quantizing system Live uses for instance. I want full control over every little hit, every step of the way

FastTracker.. makin mods
here i thought i was the only one who knew about that. Before that i was useing some other mod maker (cant rember the name)with only 4channels on a old 386. until i discovered calkwalk. then FL.

I checked out Cubase long time ago but i didn't really get into that because i was not as comfortable with the gui

I also used a module for amiga 500,and created some sounds with it but only with samples.I dont know if it was fast tracker or soundtracker but it was a film.I think 92 or sth and am not sure but I think it was a product from steinberg .Was fun 8 bit terror if I'm not wrong.
I also created some datas with basic for sid with C64 before
I'm quite a beginner in music production - the real interest for creating music with sequencers came quite late..in march 2007 , before this only mic and lyrics and beats from other people.
