Well, what I meant was that both JMJ and Shpongle are show acts (and in either case it's not quite sure whether theatrics are for audience's benefit only). Plus, they significantly overlap on both "poppiness" and "psychedelicness" scales. Frankly, this is the first time I see anybody refer to JMJ as "synth pop". A bit of an exaggeration, imho.

I see.
In my mind, "synthpop" means Erasure and Duran Duran. Didn't know it was a much wider term.

The fathers of techno are Karlheinz Stockhausen and Pierre Henry. At least they are considered as fathers of techno by music scientists.
Pierre Henry is still alive. He also was the first one who has used samples in the late 40s.

I do not understand why the word Synthpop is so bad. Think about Depeche Mode, Human League. Ultravox, Visage etc. etc. All Synthpop and GREAT music
The first Synth was invented in 1876 by Elisha Gray. Yes a Woman so it seem Women do have technical skills (in contrast to debates about why there's so few Women making music in the psytrance scene).

JMJ might be cheesy (IYO) and he might be a person who likes to show off (IYO).
But show me any Klaus Schulze show that even come close to this genius show! Music is also about visualization and no one does it better than JMJ. You might call it cheesy. I call it pure Blizz
