I got into goa/psytrance in 1996 when I bought a mix tape at a rave in NYC by a local dj called Empath. This tape changed my whole perspective of electronic dance music. The best tracks on it were
Quirk - Cognitive Dissidence and
Unconscious Collective - Fluorostani Transcendance.
I knew then that I had to seek out parties that played this music exclusively.
Here's a funny fact though-
traces of psytrance music were floating around U.S. record stores and in pop culture well before any of the first psytrance parties here. Juno Reactor's remix of Traci Lords - Control was on the 1994 movie Mortal Kombat soundtrack. Dragonfly's Project II Trance was released in the U.S. on Instinct Records which was a famous label for ambient. AND I REMEBER SEEING IT in Tower Records in like 1993. I also remember seeing those Distance to Goa compilations and saying "what the fuck does Goa mean?".
I thought it would be stupid so I overlooked it.
Too bad I it took me 3 more years to find out what this music was. |

nice infos..didnt know that juno reactor was with a production in a movie in 94.. respect.
One of my old bros from ny,who is a dedicated musician,visiting me in 98 even,never heard sth about goa..My vinyls was serving him the first tape hehe.
Later on i wondered pretty much how much goa is spread actually in the us.I always thaught before that its "not there" because of the anti drug war concept kept very strict in the us

then... a Trance nation 2 cd ... 2000
then... Light of Shidapu was probably my first psy trance compilation... bought it in 2001
