i need some help with some decisions im about to make :
well im making psychedelic trance and im working with Cubase SX audio only on AMD 1800 256 ram,and im thinking to buy audio card ,since im working with onboard soundcard and it sucks,i thought about luna 2 but some people told me since i work without any equipment its not neccesary to buy such an audiocard,so i thought a soundblaster live will do the work for me,but i dont know yet, anyway i want to know what audiocard will be the best for me and wont cost so much?
2.im working with JBL speakers ,and im thinkin to buy monitors,i wanted to know if the difference is so significant from regular speakers /and whats the difference from passive to active monitors , and which of them you recommend ?
thanx |

1. Search this forum (there are sound card threads in the first page).
2. Active - speaker & amp, Passicve - speaker only.

yooo spiritual sunrise
I personally wouldn´t go for a sound blaster, they are made for games and to listening to sound, not to produce it.
Take a look at the delta series soundcards from www.midiman.com, the audiphile is quite cheap and has the same quality of all the delta series, wich is great.
yeah, i think monitors make a huge difference in the sound you produce,
some are active others passive,
active means they are self amplified, so you wont need an amplifier, and its a positive thing since they use their own amp made exactly for the speakers
passive are not amplified, so you need a separate amplifier
good luck!

Thanks for the advice FluoSamsara
i'll check those out.
about the monitors : i searched the site for monitors and found a long disscusion about it and i decided to go for M-audio BX5/BX8 or the Event TR-8,since they cost less then the other monsters and still good nuff.

FluoSamsara was right but he forgot something extremely important.........
the difference between active and passive is excactly what fluosamsara said but active monitors tend to be flatter which means you get to hear the sound that comes out of your soundcard without any bass/mid/hi amplification they are all flat.....it wil take you one glance at monitors (in a music shop or in a studio) to understand what im talking about.
if u are making psytrance and u dont have external hardware i would go with the luna 2 because it has dsp which takes off most of the load the cpu has to take when it is proccesing audio, not to mention the xtc interface which is very usefull in psytrance....
I am using a pulsar scope and i cant find a more fun to work with sound card.....
good luck with your studio |
