First decent stuff in awhile

Hello all...been a slow, slow few months, not much been worked on, and even less decent stuff been worked on.

But, the last couple of days, I've come out with something half decent!

I'm struggling with a lead - and would really, REALLY appreciate some feedback. To actually finish a track since this time last year would be phenomenal.

Here's the lead section I speak of - I've stripped little sound effects, white noise and some upfilters etc out so you can hear the synth clearer.

Also - productionwise - not much done here. I'm gonna revisit the bass to add sub bass when I've finished writing all the parts.

I like the sound - I know the automation needs work though.

My issue is that the lead (to me) sounds very tinny and thin. I've used distortion, vinyl distortion, filters and everything else I can think of to add beef and depth to this sound, but no joy.

There is a duplicate synth line underneath, an octave lower which is quite low in the mix, but this doesnt seem to be doing much. If its any louder it interferes with the bassline.

Does anyone have any suggestions for this?

I really wanna get back on with music making so I can post more, collab, remix etc...

Please help!

so what is it u require to kno? the only reason that lead is cramming up your bassline is cause its sitting on the bass rather than around it? or needs eq cause at the mo its boxy and harsh. could be because its over destorted and now its too upfront in the mix as its lacking the bottom dynamics its now unbalanced, remember what Eq stands for.... makin everything equal . hmmm anyone else wana comment.

I've stripped it down of all effects - I think you were right in saying its over distorted. After a little more tinkering with the EQ, it doesnt sit on the bassline rather than working around it. I'm gonna try working with a different melody with the same sound, however, just to be ultra certain.

I still have the same problem, though. A very thin sounding synth line.

I want it to be big - I was inspired by the track "Galaxian Explosion" by Mad Maxx vs Bionix

Couldnt find it on youtube, click here:

Skip to about six minutes in.

its a sidechained classic hyper saw or supersaw, wiv sum detune. but its beeen sidechaind to the kick which gives it its momentum from off the bassline. hope that helps.

db audioware is my choice of sidechainer.

anyone one else suggest? no one like an ignorant now do they. fksake

hmmm.

i was using a 303 clone, but that wasn't beefy enough so started toying around in vanguard

all with ableton live.

to be honest i think i am just gonna start over with this sound, its not working out. think i've overworked it now.

cheers for the help!

yeah - to be honest i was more after a "Big" sound rather than replicating the synth lines themselves

but yeah - experimenting time!

cheers again.
