Catatonic Despair - Nabi Records/ Tantrumm Records/ Zavryian Productions/Helicon Sound System Records
Origin: The Catatonic Despair project was primarily born out of an undeniable urge to experiment with and sculpt sound as well as a need to give back to the culture that has helped set my and other minds free. Anthony Brown is the shining star from the wastelands of Utah, despite having influences from essentially the entire Psytrance spectrum, this project has and will continue to be a delving into the darkest of sonic territories. The reason for this is purely personal preference and a lack of interest in exploring the completely saturated, overly commercial melodious trance modes. It has not, nor will it ever be, his intention to select a narrow pallet of sounds from which to shape his tracks, be they produced under this current moniker or another at some later date. He feels that this habit in the trance scene as a whole is the primary contributor in the slowing down of sound or style innovations. As such, expect his tracks to not only be different from other artists but from others that have been produced by him before or will come after. In this, he is striving to attain a broader, much more complex definition of what this project is and who he is as a musician
Anthony puts it best in his philosophy, "It is my honest opinion that the lighter forms of electronic dance music lack the fuel or drive to shatter the various egotistically sustained barriers we use to protect ourselves from the multitude of simple, fundamental (yet often terrifying) truths that lurk just beneath our collective illusion called society and/or civilization. If we are to move forward and truly evolve psychologically via our inherent, unique ability to reason it will become increasingly imperative for us to see that all things that came to be after our species evolved were created or invented by us to one degree or another. It is my highest hope that my music can help in the process of acknowledging our controlling (and now seemingly autonomous) institutions and structures (not limited to government and religion) for what they are: illusions and/or inventions and, as such, are subject to immediate, arbitrary change if and when their autonomy is stripped away."
