firewire doesn't have drivers... U only need drivers for the firewire itself, the devices u attach to the firewire interface don't even need drivers (this is do to the very closed protocol that firewire is, it's also because firewire wasn't developed for computers in the first place, so drivers wouldn't be handy)
isn't firewire great |

Keep in mind. Latency is the key issue and audio streams. M-Audio Products are great if your on a budget. They offer an affordable solution. However they lack certain qualities like low latency regardless of USB or Firewire.
I have used several Interface from the MBOX, Digi002, Firewire410, ect, ect.
I have had a Motu 828MKII for about a year now and have finally found the inteface that best suits my production needs and is the most flexible. If you have the oppurtunity check it out.. It is and investment that you wont be disapointed with.
