Hi,

I've had it with firewire soundcards for notebooks! After I bought the M-audio firewire AP some years ago that didn't work, I bought an Edirol FA-66 firewire card today and gues what... It doesn't work!

I've installed it properly, did everything that needs to be done, disabled the onboard soundcard etc. But still it doesn't work. It actually works for two minutes and then it disconnects. this is EXACTLY the same problem as I had with the M-audio. I tested that on on 4 different systems, with sp1 & sp2, 4 pin, 6 pin, notebook but nothing works. What am I mising here? Some secret 1394 setting that occurs on every system?

I'm pissed, just wasted 300€ again!!

Anyone plz?

Cubasing is like Freebasing, just with audio.
Both cost more than you can afford, and leaves you sitting in a dark room with no life, craving for more.

I did everything according to the manual (of both). Turn on notebook, connect switched off soundcard, turn on soundcard. That's the tragedy of it all: I'm doing everything according the manuals, I followed every step and hint that nees to be taken (with this soundcard and the previous) and still it doesn't work. Is there something you have to change in your xp when using 1394 or something?

edit: ok, replies like 'I have no problems with my soundcard' ...good for you and thanks for mentioning but they don't really help.

Ok, I think I figured out a part of the problem for the edirol (not the m-audio). I just tested it on my desktop with bus power and there it seemsto work (for now, 10 mins, crossing my fingers it will keep on working). So I think the problem is power supply related. When I hok it on my notebook using a 4pin 1394 connection on the notebook and a 6 pin 1394 connection on the soundcard, I need to power supply it using an ac adaptor (cause the 4 pin doesn't bus power it. So could it be that the soundcard assumes it will get bus power (alltough switched to ac power) while it doesn't and the problem will get fixed when I will use 4 pin 1394 connection on both devices?           http://www.soundcloud.com/bandarlog

uhu, but I know this (for a long time).

So I just returned from the computer store and here's the deal:

It works on my desktop with bus power using 6 pin plugts at both sides.

It doesn't work on my laptop when I hook it (with the cable provided) on the 4 pin plug on the side of my laptop and the 6 pin plug on the side of the soundcard using a power adaptor (since 4 pin doesn't provide power).

And I just tested it using a new 4 pin 1394 cable (4 pin on both sides) and with power supply and it works for 10 secs, then it disconnects, then it works for 5 secs more then it disconnects etc. (in every program).

So the card is fine since it works on my desktop. So what could the problem be when I use it on my laptop?           http://www.soundcloud.com/bandarlog

Thanks for your help but I did all those things (and did them with the previous m-audio soundcard too. Didn't work then, don't work now...

I'm pretty sure it is a firewire connectivity problem in the laptop. But what?           http://www.soundcloud.com/bandarlog
