i'd go with seagate. They give you a 5 year warranty. So within 5 years, if it breaks, they'll replace it. |

I bought a western digital and it died on me 3 months after I bought it, along with all my data that I had backed up on it.
I've had multiple seagate drives that have never failed.
This is my experience, mileage (kilometereage? ) could vary.

I haven't had too many hard drive problems, but the ones I have had were with western digital. I got a 500gb Buffalo external, and ended up getting a 500 gig seagate drive for free. Replaced the stock drive with the seagate and it's been totally fine for over 2 years.
  You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me? |

never had any problems in over a year with my 1TB Western Digital My Book besides having a difficult time to get new power cables after I lost them...
Would also suggest partitioning the disk leaving 10 percent of its capacity in an empty disk unit to prevent crashes

Could you please, go into some more detail about how this prevents crashes?

sure. i crashed 2 HDs from the apple laptops (G4 iBook and Powerbook 13") in the old days probably because they were used to their limit too often (rather small drives)..
after reading discussions in outside forums i realised this was happening to a lot of people
ever since then i avoid using more than 90% of its capacity and have partitioned the 1TB external leaving 10% free, which i sometimes use as a temporary folder.. and never had any problems ever since
