Hello all..
I´m thinking to get a new stuff for production..actually i´m on PC plattaform and I will still at Pc probably...but researching about the new MacBooks I found that "normal" models.. don´t have firewire ports..just USB...

Just the MacBooks Pro have one firewire connection...

Actually the usb 2.0 work at 480mb/s versus the 800mb/s of FW800...

I found that are finalized the new USB 3.0 or "USB SuperSpeed" and will be avaiable on market at start of 2010...with the incredible speed of 4,8Gb/s..10x more fast then USB 2.0...

To fight with USB 3.0 the 1394 Trade Association announced the new firewire, knowed as S3200...but with the 3,2Gb/s..more slow then the usb 3.0...

We are walking to end of FireWire?

For the experts I ask...what is other diferences between FireWire and USB beyond the speed? why firewire normally is more stable? or it is just legend?

All the best
Natan

Keep in mind that IEEE1394 standards still is a more reliable source since:

1.Its peer to peer based

2. has lower latency

3. Higher transfer rate when used in practice compared to USB2.0

4. Lower CPU utilization than USB2.0

Still IEEE1394 still kicks the living crap out of USB2.0

i cannot understand why RME releashed new external interfaces with USB instead of firewire
found a little conversation in the forum

And what about SCSI?           You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me?

SCSI, long time since i heard anyone use it in home stations.

SCSI is popular on high-performance workstations and servers usually in RAID-configs           Demand recognition for the Armenian genocide 1915

Although high-speed USB 2.0 nominally runs at a higher signaling rate (480 Mbit/s) than FireWire 400, data transfers over S400 FireWire interfaces generally outperform similar transfers over USB 2.0 interfaces. Typical USB PC-hosts rarely exceed sustained transfers of 280 Mbit/s, with 240 Mbit/s being more typical. This is likely due to USB's reliance on the host-processor to manage low-level USB protocol, whereas FireWire delegates the same tasks to the interface hardware. For example, the FireWire host interface supports memory-mapped devices, which allows high-level protocols to run without loading the host CPU with interrupts and buffer-copy operations.Besides throughput, other differences are that it uses simpler bus networking, provides more power over the chain, more reliable data transfer, and uses fewer CPU resources
