Artist : Fiord
Title : Get up Jude
Label : eVapour8
Format : digital (Mp3 & wave)
Release date : april 22, 09.

Tracklist:
1. Fiord : Get up Jude (original)
2. Fiord : Get up Jude (Beckers rmx)
3. Fiord : Get up Jude (Monaque rmx)

Fiord is the side-project of Barton & Hayden Strom, better known in the Progressive-Trance scene as Antix. It is nevertheless under this guise that the the sultry duo from Auckland has been releasing top quality releases for the last two years, since their last Antix rmx album “Wandering”. What was originally a more minimal and Electro-House infused version of their art, has evolved and matured with time towards a more pronounced Techno approach with a distinct signature sound, epitomized in a broad array of brilliant – although quite dark in tone – remixes of Perfect Stranger, D-Nox & Beckers, and Animaltek, to name only a few of my recent favourites.
Evapour8, the side-label successfully launched last year by Aussie maestro Kasey Taylor with the behemoth galactic hit “Shnorkel”, returns with this ninth release dedicated to Fiord. Released in late april, it is still hot from the oven. And ready to be relished.

1/ Fiord : Get up Jude (original)
To discerning listeners, Fiord has never sounded that remote from Antix. This one, more than others maybe, confirms this. There is a enough of the Antix thick and rich sonic paste and taste to make you feel at home, yet “Get up Jude” showcases how much their recent remix experiences have nutured their own compositions: an Animaltek synth, for example, is briefly yet clearly audible. It also gives further expression to the rich sound palette they’ve been experimenting with recently, as can be heard in the massive and immersive sub bass, the husky juxtaposed leads and voice snippet. The theme that elegantly soars during the break testifies that this last output is high class music while relentlessly appealing to the dance. A must have!

2/ Fiord : Get up Jude (Beckers rmx)
Franck Beckers has already proved his keen affinity with the Fiord/Antix musical world (remember his contribution to the beautiful, last Antix rmx album on Iboga). He goes solo on rmx duty once more, and this has been an instant success, his rendition immediately scoring high in the Beatport Techno charts. The reason? He thrives on the excellent material provided by the Kiwi brothers, and remains quite faithful to the original. But the German Master crafts a magnificent, charging, heavy funk-laced bassline, for which he is second to none, and that is probably enough to explain its success. The supplemental rhythmic arrangements such as the heavy cymbal ride and extra percussion work, added to a befitting and astute cut in the mix, result in a dancefloor magnet, if not a bomb, that deserves to be hammered in the month to come.

3/ Fiord : Get up Jude (Monaque rmx)
The up-and-coming cosmopolitan Russian duo Monaque, comprising DJ & producers Serge Que and Alex Monakhov are feature regularly on Kasey Taylor’s imprints, in addition to their appearances on labels such as Ultra, Balkan Connection or System recordings. They draw the curtain of this release with a much softer, decanted rendition, which is also the least surprising compared to the original. It is a blend of progressive house with a zest —or leftover—of techy influence, that strips off a lot of the original impasto, keeping the sharper and plainer edges. It certainly does not have the strong allure of both the above-mentioned versions, yet they hold their own. This concluding piece will smoothly fit into the beginning of a set.

Bottom line
Another great release by eVapour8 with two truly wonderful and indispensable tracks, another paving stone from the Kiwi wonderboys on the way to the firmament. And a great teaser for the upcoming Antix album due out at Iboga.

I played the original almost in every set I played since the beginning of the year, probably the best trancey techno trance I have in my case. Superb! Beckers remix is still new to me, but it's an excellent track too, altogether very good EP

yep, played the orginal at the last couple of gigs and it sounds huge... really good atmosphere and fat subs to boot. Like the beckers mix also but am yet to give it a spin. The Monaque mix sounds a bit weak compared to the other two.

Strong EP thats going to be in my case for the rest of the year!           http://www.facebook.com/GlenC.IbogaRecords

I played the beckers remix last weekend and I confess it was one of the best tracks of the end in my set!

Just amazing work, congratz Hayden, Barton and Beckers!           http://soundcloud.com/guimilani/
