You can do it also in cubase, it uses same algorhythm as melodyne..           http://www.myspace.com/djacidkills

There is a couple of other topics like this.

The best solution is to hire the ears of the canadian boy called Nick.           http://soundcloud.com/alphadelphi

You go to audio menu then: Statistics and it will try to tell you the sample's average note and other data.

o.O ... never thought of this, somehow pathetic...
i mean, i cant say "its that key" just with my ears , but you should hear it, when your playing some notes on the synth at the same time and compare them...

example, you got a melody + kick, now ur trying to make a bassline fitting to it...
you should hear wrong notes immediately, otherwise you will never get in progressive music or something like that...
you have to know/hear the rules before you can break them (example outstanding notes from the common scales), and this makes music interesting.

my advice would be, learn guitar + theory.
when ur trying to tune your guitar, its the same thing, you HAVE TO hear it.

sorry when i sounded a little bit harsh to you, its just my opinoin, especially in psy its not just boomboom

I don't think he's talking about melody mate... A sample especially a vocal sample is very difficult to tell what key it's in. And the fact that he's asking about how to tune the sample means that he's actually given thought to keeping everything in key, which is more than what many music creators do. I played viola for a long time and I still need help tuning an instrument. So ear training is only as good as your ears.

A bassline or a melody are easy to tell whether they sound good together or not, but some drum samples and vocal samples are a lot more difficult to interpret. And it never hurts to have a cheat sheet of chords and scales... So use whatever method you can to get it sounding proper. And I use the cubase statistics for a lot of stuff to tell me where I am in relation to where I need to be.
