it must be a 303 style sequencer? with accent and glide ,it s good for creativity.you ll do sounds you re not used too do on sx with it, like old school techno riffs.

but 303 sound is still one of the most psychedelic sounds for me, especially when used with good delay unit

emmmmm... can you tell me what is a virus sound ?
virus, even the a model is capable of making variety of sounds. i would like to know how can you recognize sounds made with it.

A bit lousy explanation of me there.. Not sure how to put words to it but I meant a special type of virus sound. The Prophet 5/Prophet 600 style polymoded/freq tweeked fast sweeps, that, for me is THE virus sound. Very used since the first virus. Prolly a ton of VSTs out there now that can do it similar too (but more dull).

The virus sure can do a variety of sounds otherwise (not that I like). People deep into synths can often hear what sound source are used. Most synths get famous for a special charachteristic type of sound, not for the overall flexibility.

Regarding the TB there are a few decent clones but still far from the original when you start tweeking a bit. I like rebirth the best so far.

fast pitch/freq sweeps can be done with most of the VAs on the market, not to mention old analog gear. prophet 5 and 600 are great machines, but their sound imo differs from virus a lot. i would say that this type of sounds is overused (what about the nordlead then ?), not the hardware. sure there are synths that have very distinctive sound, but after processing material made with these machines during creative process and than even during the mastering phase they can be hardly recognized.
one of the best teebee clones is Acidlab bassline.
definitely not far from the original. and i agree with rebirth, still very nice emulation with digital character

Most synths are able to make pitch/freq type sweeps but it's the quality of it that counts The prophet series is quality, the VA virus is not. Virus and Prophets have nothing common, your right about that, exept the pitch/freq/osc-sync/FM type sounds that got the virus famous.

So P5s and P600s are overused atm but not the virus (nord)? Are you talking about VSTs since you mentioned that the sound type, not hardware was overused..? Something like the pro53 is NOT a P5, not even halfway there!

Comparing my TB to the Audiorealism makes me LOL. Tried most of the others too, same deal.

How does processing and mastering screw up so bad that distinct synths get unrecognizable?

/Cheers

i would say that nordlead 1/2 are used more for this type of sounds. i don`t want to defend virus against anything, no. also i didn`t say that p5/600 are overused and virus/nord no. but i can tell you that p5 is not that special as many other analogs especially for psytrance. and what is quality you are talking about ? if audio output than p5 looses all the way against most VAs. or heavy detuning of p5 oscs ? it is so overcharged these days. i mean it´s nice but not for that price.

not screw up, but change character. even when you apply gentle eq, you can affect your sound a lot. not to mention compression, effects, filters. thats maybe the reason you think you hear a virus and it is the nord or some vsti. this was kinda joke. btw i have both nl and vir and i like them in their unique way. and if you like the sound of sc prophets or use them in your music, it`s your way of expression. we are different and i respect your opinion.

hmmm... i think the virus has too many modulations to real become overused...

btw, the nord sound is based on the prophets... adn that nord font almosts reads moog

it must have an identity problem ehehhehe           roll a joint or STFU :)

Although the Virus has a big modulation matrix and there are a lot of things that you can do, you still get its characteristic tone that you can't get rid of, no matter how you program it. All synths have a certain tone, and the Virus' and Nord lead's tones are distinct.
The Nord has this bold digital bite, whereas the Virus simply sounds plastic and boring...imo always.

I had both of them, and I am simply saying it how I saw/heard it.
Different people like different things...for example some people like the vb-1

i should apolegize because i gave the tau a try this weekend and i found i could get a bass with a better low-end (one i can feel and not only hear) with the tau than what i was achieving with the vb1, after years of "bad-mouthing" it...

but... yeah... vb1 rules

Just a follow up here, but the bugs and heavy CPU load I had on the demo version back in the beginning of this thread appears to have been fixed. I just got the full version installed and I'm liking it so far. Haven't tried it for bass yet though.           New Album: Jikkenteki - Flights Of Infinity
