most of them dont know how to tweek their bases good when it's come's to Oscillator's and envelopes, the VB-1 is the most easy bass vsti because there is no Oscillator's or somthing similar, all of the work in it is the EQ......

hi.

S.d6>
if you're commenting my post, where i've shown my disregard for the tb303 as a bass line synth, I do know how to tweak OSC and ENVS to make my basses sound good.

I'm doing psy for a long time and only started using the VB-1 for about 2 months. Before that i've used everything from real hardware VAs to edirol super quartet for bass lines in full on style and now i've settled for the VB1 because i really like the sound.

Also, ALL the tracks i'm working at the moment use vb-1 and i'm not using EQ in them and from the comments im getting and my own ears i'm not lacking it...

tb303 vst emulators are all crap at full on bass, i'd rather use a raw saw waveform than any of that shit everyone else is using.

for leads i like the 303 type of sound, but most emulators dont have all the modulations i like to use, since the original 303 didn't have a propper env, lfo, etc

if i was looking for an easy life, i would have bought a nord lead and a virus too and sound like everyone else           roll a joint or STFU :)

i have the same question!!
orange

the roland tb303 is just an over-rated analog synth wich anyone that wants to sound like phuture 303 or any similar retro style has to buy

i dont feel the need for that *specific* sound, i use similar sounds like everyone else, and given the money too buy one, i would be better of buying a cheaper capable of more modulation type of synth...

i dont think anyone hates Vb1, its just that its been used in so many tracks, people want to get fresh...
the music needs to evolve, all elements has to...
vb1 is not the answer to all basses... but it can do lots of different bass....
all in all.. vb1 is good in the right hands...
so is any instrument....

i dont hate it, i just feel a little unoriginal using it...

"the roland tb303 is just an over-rated analog synth"

Guess that's why there are dousins of clones out there

Taken from http://www.vintagesynth.com/

"The TB-303 has become one of the most sought after vintage synths ever! It has helped develop and stylize many forms of electronic music including House, Acid, Trance and Ambient. If ever there was a need for a repetitive bassline/groove or an extremely resonant and bubbly sound, the 303 is KING. Truly a unique machine with a very identifiable sound! "

More accurate description of the 303.. And just mentioning it in the same sentance as VB-1, should lead to permanent deportation to Greenland, atleast if I ruled the world

Regardless of whether or not you like the vb-1 or the tb 303, you have to recognize that as soon as the tb wasn't used for bass, it was one of the most important things in electronic music, and for producers made a very important statement. You don't have to use the tool for what you think it's for. Experiment. To be honest I usually don't like either for bass, but if someone can make it sound good, more power to them. Don't be spreadin the haterade just because your opinion is different. Maybe in time you might get that perfect tone out of those instruments and your attitude will change. Just because it's very often used doesn't mean that it's any better or worse. It's just that people have figured out how to use it the way they like it and have shared their secrets with their friends.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

So you don't want a nord/virus because you're going to sound like everybody else, yet use the vb-1 for all of the basslines you're doing lately. Makes sense.

hmmm... so instead of the vb-1, wich is not original because it's used in millions of tracks, you preffer the tb 303 wich has been over-used in trillions of tracks...

good choice, makes all sense to me, yeah..           roll a joint or STFU :)

that quote explains it all: OVERRATED...

to a point the VB1 and the TB303 are similar:

they have little control on the type of sound, lack basic envelopes and routing.

both were created to simulate a electronic bass. The tb303 fails completely at it and it's mostly a bleep generator.           roll a joint or STFU :)

nope. my sound comes from the away i do stuff. i became using the vb1 because i enjoyed the sound of it. Having a pick sound is also very nice

if i wanted an easy life, and had deep pockets or rich parents, i would have bought a nord/virus. sure.           roll a joint or STFU :)

it's a love/hate kind of relationship for them. they say they hate it, but then they use it when no ones looking (and then they hate themselfs for it)

like vegetarians going to macdonalds late at night, using overcoats and masks, so no one would recognize them

roll a joint or STFU :)

Do you have any Hardfloor records? Do you know who they are?
We can sit here and argue about the way vb-1 sounds, till the end of time, but has the vb-1 (sound, interface..etc) influenced people in such a way, that made them crete a completely new genre of music that swept the globe like a tidal wave?

Saying that you don't have deep pockets or rich parents is a far more reasonable explanation that saying that you don't want to use a Nord because you're going to sound like everyone else...especially when you use the vb-1.
Dunno if you ever used a Nord or Virus, but they do a lot more stuff than the typical psy-trance patches.
