Hey, guys! Got myself a nasty question. I've tried to filter sweep the kick+bass (LP or HP) or even the whole mix, and it just goes out of hands in terms of levels, I was wondering if you have any ideas on how to tame the result, so it doesn't sound too loud in the mix, was thinking about limiting, but i want to hear the right way to do it.
p.s. Talking about the effect that is used everywhere in the break downs mainly.
Appreciate all the ideas

Might be your room causing peaks as it sweeps.
Try it with headphones and see if the effects is as pronounced.
Otherwise, any compressor will do it. |

Thanks for the replies, i was actually speaking about filtering lp with some q to give it a bit resonance, but that brings it up in volume a bit, that's the problem, was thinking there is a trick to tame it without many plugs etc. will try the above said

You can try automating the Q factor too. Lower at the bottom, higher in the mids and upwards

Yes. Q automation is the answer
I always use this method

slight multiband compression works for me... you can automate the q as well, but if you're looking for a specific sound that the resonance gives you, you're gonna have to tame the volume boost. I like the waves linmb for that... or the c4... you don't really have to be too aggro about your settings either... just enough to keep it from peaking too much...
Also... regardless of the room you're in, you can see when your volume of your kick and bass goes up by looking at the volume output of the channel. Especially if you're using a sequencer that actually has a decibel output for each channel. An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines. |

if it just overloads in a certain frequency you could try to de-ess it, simpler then some multiband compression |

export > compress
your limiter idea is probably what will work very good also
Q automation can ruin it and can make it right , depend what when and why , but general speaking if the filter sounds good only too loud then change volume not the filter
