What about Dario Argento's horror film...???
For the fans of these movies i think are great...

Do you know his work? In his field is a great director. I personally like more his stuff from the 70's, "Profondo Rosso" is a cult with a very good soundtrack composed by an Italian progrock band, Goblin, quite psychedelic actually.

yeap , i am a fan of Dario... i have seen until now about 6-7 movies of him....
Before three weeks here in Greece at cinemas was played his new movie..CARDPLAYER i think the original name of the movie.. A psycho man from his pc play a poker game with the police and if he wins then the victim is killed by him... NOT REALLY GOOD MOVIE
I agree with you..The first movies was quite better ... |

is this the korean movie telling the story
of a boy growing up on a floating shrine etc?
if it is, it's one of the best movies i've
seen. i don't know the english name that's
why i'm asking : )...
other favourites:
-princess mononoke
-totoro
-spirited away
and PLEASE don't say they're JUST animations
-powwanasqatsi (never get the spelling right)
-dune
-pulp fiction
-the color of paradise (translated from the
finnish name), an iranian movie about a
blind boy who returns to his village for
the summer. yeah, i know it doesn't sound
very interesting but it's shot very beauti-
fully and the ambience is unique.
-mekhong full moon party
-whale rider
-big lebowski
-micro cosmos
-the great flight (?) ,the documentary about
migrating birds... wow!
-fear and loathing in las vegas
and the list goes on and on... 8)

ARG... People, stop recommending Ghost in the Shell, it is a shit movie (I heard the manga is good though). Everyone that knows anything about anime says that this is probably the most overrated anime feature EVER.
FrankFurther: you could also add the other Hayao Miyazaki films to that list of 3 animated films of his (Laputa: Castle in the Sky is better than Princess Mononoke IMO)... definately the best director in animation's history (and the living proof that Disney are just sooooo weak in comparisson - which is why they bought distribution rights for all his movies).
I'd also add Lars von Trier's The Kingdom, just because of that ending sequence that leaves your jaw scraping the ground (without being as vague as Lynch movies), Clerks for the casual outlook and cereal box philosophy in day to day situations, and Voices of a Different Star (Hoshi no Koe) for being just 24 minutes long but a touching tale (and amazingly enough, done by just one person, excluding the soundtrack).

totoro is an animation from the
fantastic studio ghibli. it's a
story about a family who moves
to the country side. the family's
two young girls learn about the
traditional belief system of japan
and make a deeper connection to nature
... and meet a new wonderful and furry
friend called... totoro!
a heart warming story : )
kaz: haven't seen laputa yet but sure
will some day. i have pompoko too but
the story telling isn't as hypnotic
as in those mentioned above.
long live studio ghibli! : )

If you get the chance to see King of Hearts from the 60s - do! Its a touching story about sanity and insanity... hard to find tho'.
Princess Mononoke manga is brilliant, and recently City of God, violent but deep.
Holy Smoke is right up my street too. Very clever twists and character table turning (not turntable!) going on...
great thread!
