The def should be halfway between minus's- and ricciardo's posts
I would like to contributte but i'm still not a complete artist so i'm reading and learning
Excessive self promotion sucks indeed.. but we got it from the myspace era, now is fb, tomorrow we'll have another and so on
4. its not important production knoledge, thats another mistake, if you check infected mushroom, they become famous for their first albuns in psytrance world, but today they have shame of their production quality back that time, not that they production sucked (i dont think so...) but for their standarts it was bad, but again... MUSIC is MUSIC, if your message is amazing, if your music is good and complex in terms of art doesnt matter how good or bad your production is, it will allways came to atention...
It was the 90's.. psy was in its young years and it was waaay different from now
Inho if they were now they'd debut with a cheesy one, or just bad nino's forecast

well i have to agree with my other brother who came up with some points,, that one doesnt need to send music to artists or labels,, nowdays he can simply upload on soundcloud,, and thats all is required,,your music will go by itself to a whole lot,, my points r rather a little oldskoolish,, so some fresh ideas is always good.

something i can argue is that it can take 10 years to have good production but lot of artists make their best tunes when exploring a style of music that is new for them ,at the begening, when not much influenced and formated yet by this music. |

Some wise and bountiful words lovely post goodness:
Tho:Point 4 - I know people who dedicate their life to 1 style of music and are masters in that genre if they spread themselves too thinly they maybe would not have achieved what they did - though I totally agree learning many production styles is most beneficial when producing any music a very good idea to gain knowledge.
10 years is a good amount of time to learn anything I was always told practice anything instruments/composition/theory 1hr per day and 5yrs will yield good things.
I hear some artists best album is 1st album as this is the 10yrs they spend then label may want another album 6 months later so gonna be different. People criticize people for changing style as they grow but as you gain access to better and better equipment you may want to use it!
I have experienced first hand prof. artists befriending me then shying away when I send a nice even simple message so agree with quietly working away not immediately contacting people if they do, sometimes big artists are very busy people.
Releasing through labels is not the main thing with music you can do it yourself through various channels on the internet or at gigs even selling CD's though it can be good to have a standard or style or label help.
And the benefit is not always of releasing advantages of producing, mastering and mixing music is that you may be able to use your work to gain access to professional music qualifications or a degree or teach others etc.
Check out in your area what college/music courses are available you may be able to gain access to free studio time/tuition or use of equipment free or for very little money.
If you are a music "student" you can gain discount on software and also can gain grants in some countries which will help a lot with equipment.
In the UK music shops must offer a scheme to people of a certain age they can take a musical instrument for free on credit no interest applied find out and use this I think its ages 18 - 28 - you may be able to get a top synth or equipment on low money or try before buy/super cheap hire
And get what information and sounds you can - collect VST's, sounds, FX, Hardware, drums, recordings you make, samples whatever you can make, buy, borrow or blag build up a library of tools you like and can use and can access easily credit those who help you achieve this. Then It should be fun to play.
There are many good tutorials around respect to anyone who takes time out of producing to make them Mr Bill, Tom Cosm and Billy from Cosmosis as well as Andi Vax and Psilocybian etc follow the tutorial patiently and it will yield results you may need to go through the tutorial patiently a few times to ensure you get it right.
Compare a small outlay on some tutorials/tutition that may get you where you want to be compared to current university fees to study music.
Read anything you can that you can get that can help you.
And don't let negativity affect your work we all create our own reality try to stay positive even if you do get negative feedback life is for learning from this.
Many ways to compose but Billy's word ring true that what separates the boys from the men is being able to translate ideas into music effectively
Any else get inspiration and ideas and compose or even struggle to compose or find the idea doesn't last long when it comes?
Apparently this is common of many composers.
Share your music and your ideas respect yourself and others and if you like to play out get in touch with nights/promoters etc if its good and they like they may accommodate. (be prepared to brush your teeth and shave in a car wing mirror with cider to save water and general psytramping duties if you want to do lots of outdoor gigs he he.)
Hotels can be boring parties and friends to stay are better after gigs and many big artists agree this.
Sometimes flying/going to play for the experience can boost your career just from the gig so bear this in mind don't be greedy but rest where needed that is important or you can burn out.
If someone DJ your tune at club or outdoor party and its good many ask how to get tune so share with those that help you and going to play your tunes in beautiful places or.
Remain humble at all times why are you better than anyone else? Ego is not good with music try to instead have confidence with knowledge.
Listen to others music regularly.
There are some very very nice people in this scene.
But this forum is a fountain and the psychedelic community that is formed is top for sharing important knowledge so use it wisely.
Thanks & Peace
