Since this's a world music forum, I can't stand why nobody have mention Fela Kuti before.
I've recently found out about his work and my impression from him is: amazing funkjazzgroovedrums.
That's right if you listen to Fela's music you will hear all this mixed with great lyrics (lot's of them are also political protest ones). Fela is the founder of a style known as Afrobeat, and since the purpose of this forum is to share tips and sugestion of quality music here is mine. So don't wast your time. Go and check this african nuts called Fela Kuti - you won't regret a thing. |

u can hear him alot in the radio at http://www.106fm.co.il/ on friday at 10:00 AM israel time

I too just got introduced to Fela's music. AMAZING AMAZING! I can't believe that more people have not heard of him or collaborated with him.

along the lines of fela i recommend a great nyc based band called antibalas - they are a high energy afro beat orchestra that never disappoints.
also, anyone hear like manu chao? miriam makeba? just curious...
