I seem to get more done here in the studio when I work with my headfones on!
Dunno if it's the warm feeling of snugness when wearing, or the nice detail of sound, or the idea that I am hiding away from the world in a personal journey inside my head, but ... yeah, the answers just seem to come quicker... has anyone else noticed that? I'm coming back to my monitors for reference when doing engineering work... but damn I love those cans! Using Sennheiser HD25 btw

I find when I'm using my monitors I try to get everything sounding too good, like I'm doing a mix every step of the way. With headphones I let this stuff go until the time where it's actually relevant, although my DT-100's need a new cable and all I have for night composition at the moment are those nasty little ear plug things . |

i do most work on hd25s too (keeps the neighbours happier) but i can't work out bass on them and find when i play the tune over monitors it sounds very different. so during mixdown i try to get it to sound cool on both.
having said that they're really clear for mid to top stuff and they're cool dj headphones.

Cubasing is like Freebasing, just with audio.
Both cost more than you can afford, and leaves you sitting in a dark room with no life, craving for more. |

i am completely with you Andrew.
First i make my groove on my monitors, but soon get stranded uninspired. But when putting headphones on the ideas come quickly and i actually get to make something rather than re-listening on what i've done so far, over and over again

When i put on my beyerdynamic dt990pro is sometimes get lost in the detail.
When i solo the bass im fiddling for hours to get it to sound just right while it already sounded good on monitors.
But i quess its worth it.
As for the creation process, i work most of the time with 2 people so thats not really nice
My ears get tired of headphones after a while aswell.
Anyway, i think its good as a reference to use some proper quality headphones.
I dont have really good monitors(alesis) so i need the reference at all time

soulfood, what are the DT-100s like to work on day-to-day?
i fell in love with them as listening headphones when i got hold of a friend's pair last year. if i were to buy any cans i'd seriously consider them! |

i never design the bass on heaphones ,,,, because there are no headphones which have even close to accurate low frequency response ...
until unless you are an experienced producer .... and u know the approximate settings of your plugins to make your bassline sound proper
but im onboard with u andrew ... for some strange reason whenever i use my headphones ... the ideas come quicker to me and i get a lotta work done faster .... if you have a pair of nice headphones with a solid mid frequency response , u can do a nice job on your track with the headphones , but always finalizing the mix on a pair of monitors.
