Been working on this psy track for about 20 hours (work in progress 144BPM) and would love some feedback whether what I have so far works? It's not mixed yet, so the intro needs a lot of eq'ing etc, and the fx/noises need attention(possible replacing) the delays need tweaking as well etc. I will be varying the percussion and kick fills ...... Does the vocal chant in the intro fit ok?
I'm really new to producing, any advice on what should I add/remove on what I have so far would be greatly appreciated? What type of sounds would fit with this style.Any advice would be great
many thanks

The first tip i can give is you have to believe in your tracks (I'm not saying you don't thou)
Now, your intro was actually nice, the vocal fit, but it should be modulated into highpass or lowpass, something to make the vocal different as the tune walks foward.
I like your kick and bass, but your tune is set at 144 bpm's right? So what's up with the "slow motion" beat, i mean, have some more percussion into it, add some out of nowhere sounds, use and abuse your kick and bass combo as much as you can. (144 is fast, so use that advantage.)
Your hi hats could and probably should be more worked out, you know? That open hi hat hitting the kick gets tiring.
The more you diversify your beat and your sounds the more positive reaction you will get from the listener. You have something good here, practice, practice & practice bud

Cheers fella, many thanks for the advice! ....Have tried a few other voc samples in intro, but the chant seems to fit to my ears, so thanks for confirming that it fits, will try a filter on the vocal to get some movement there, thanks for the idea.
When you say "slow motion beat" do you mean half time tempo, or triplet/dotted quantize? I'll spend some time on the percussion, how many bars should I have the open hat hitting the kick before varying?
Doing the bass seems my strongest area, I struggle with kick/drum fills at the moment
the psy trance is very hard to write, it feels like I'm getting somewhere now,or at least making progress... so cheers for the encouragement !

I probably didn't make myself clear on that area. Well, by slow motion beat i don't actually mean slow tempo, i mean, for example, in my tunes you can notice i have a thirst for speed and power, and yet, my tunes are below 144 bpm's. (140 bpm's to be precise) My point is that you should use the speed your kick and bass combo provide you, and with that speed your percussion will almost automatically be fast too, you know?
About your hi hats variations.. Well, if you want that rising feeling while you 'toy' with your hi hats, you should vary your open hats, let's say for example, hitting the first 2 kicks with an open hat, the next 2 kicks could have the open hat hitting between them, you know, just play with it, there's so much to try on. Well there's my inspirational words of the day, gotta get ready for my production time now.. Just messing with you bro.
Dunno if i was specific enough, but you can send me a PM if you need advice or something. Peace.

That's great Ethik. No worries, i get what you mean now with the tempo, rather use the different timings within the tempo to get different feels. Will try your suggestions with the hats

Yes, try mixing closed with open hats, 'create' some chain effects with your closed hats, there's an infinite number of possibilities.
