Chuck Schuldiner!!!
perfect balance between technicality and musicality. no unnecessary notes or pointless whankering. complex when necessary, but without the need to over complicate when something simple just works for the part. and that's what made his songs some of the best metal songs every written. they all just feel like a whole and not a mere collection of riffs and solos, with every part effortlessly flowing into the next.
