well I havent been to too many European festivals, the best Ive been to in the US was Symbiosis. Not an entirely trance festival but a really nice time. Saw Protoculture, Sun Control Species, Krumelur, Bluetech (!!), Random, Hallucinogen (well... I didnt really feel it), Shpongle DJ set, Ott, Tipper, Spoonbill, Mystic Beats and others whose names Ive forgotten. A really well-thought out party, well organized. Deco was amazing especially in the chill area, the sound system was actually built specifically for the festival, and was absolutely killer, the forest stage had some amazing lycra installations which were also video screens, and a heavy thump in the bass while remaining clear as crystal! A refreshing experience.

ya.....this was a very nice, well thought event.....i commend the organizers for fantastic deco, location and that the artists and djs all played according to plan and on time.....
but my favorite festival was the UNITY FESTIVAL in bolivia......it was small maybe 800 people or so.....but their was so much great energy in a at that time "developing" scene.......location was incredible out near the jungles of the amazon.....very diverse crowd........artists and djs played incredible.....
just the feeling was the most impressive thing i can say about it.......

for Europe its gotta be Sonica for beng so organised and the people being so awesome
and
for South Africa it has to be Vortex for sheer scale and blinding briliance with the most amazing decor

Boom for me.
Because is not only for the music but and for the culture also.
Thats mean big area and a lot of places exept the dancefloor to spend your time and have good time.

this year edition of the boom was much better for me.
but if we talk about the past then Sola luna fest. in samothraki 2001 was the best for me.
The place the vibe the music and the people....

Gaian Mind Festival in Pennsylvania was absolutely majikal. beautiful location, well organized, great vibes, range of psychedelic music, happy, freaky people 
i'm just getting started with festivals though. most gatherings i've attended have been outdoors, 24-48 hours.. festival is considered 3 days or more? it's always a spirit festival for me
