Free with computer music (less options that original software, but still good).

native instrument's driver is pretty dope, has an integrated distortion and pretty much does the trick, sounds very raw and agressive in an analogue kind of way, it's only low pass though...

u-he's filter on the uhbik is also very nice, a multi-mode one this time, also with included distortion

Vengeance Philta is excellent, and of course all Fab Filter stuff is brilliant.

A lot of psy tracks have filter in kick-bass or snare-hihat-drumloop buses in breaks, buildups, whatever. I am now in the process of getting that filter sound.

I am trying a lot of good filters (fabfilter, uhe runciter, sonalksis tbk), but am not really getting there yet, too clinical sound when I compare to good commerical psy tracks.

What would be your typical workflow in filter breaks/buildups and what plugs are you using? Do you have some other effects after the filter (limiter, compressor, saturator, etc...) to adjust the sound?

usually it's not just the filter.

for some build ups, a usual combo is: filter+some form of saturation/distortion (including bitcrusher)+reverb, all automated, it's actually pretty easy once you start tweaking this things together

some new plug-ins actually deliver it by themselves, cubase's tonic has a decente sounding distortion, and native instrument's drive is a killer, but only Low Pass in there... (bummer I know)... but why runciter didn't cut it for you? like it's sound myself, as most things u-he btw

Usually kick n bass are hipassed or lowpassed in breaks. So no fancy filter needed.
Can you give an example of what you are after?           soundcloud.com/supergroover
