Maybe this should have been seperate as blues and jazz but whateva. So who are the bands that get you in da groove to da Blues. I am definetly more into the blues than jazz right now but there are mornings where some nice jazz just unwinds you and makes you do weird movements wif body. So who do you guys enjoy the most?

Some names to start us out:
Robert Johnson
Muddy Waters
B.B. King
Taj Mahal
Louis Armstrong
Miles Davis
Sun Ra

I also like blues rock when it is made well. Some recommendations?           `Bottomless wonders spring from simple rules, which are repeated without end` Mandelbrot

Miles Davis
Louis Armstrong
John Coltrane

Only a few I can remember now. The sax has to be one of the most psychedelic instruments IMO.

It's very hard to choose only a few, but I'll try:

1. Keith Jarrett - amazing pianist and so creative. His piano trio with Jack DeJohnette on the drums and Gary Peacock on the bass - brilliant.

2. John Coltrane (and McCoy Tyner) - sorry, I don't speak English good enough to find the word to describe his music. I added his pianist, McCoy Tyner, since his compositions are amazing as well.
Anybody who likes John Coltrane, be sure to check out McCoy Tyner's album from '74 (I think) called "Atlantis". It was the best jazz album of the year (it is without John COltrane, since he passed away).

3. Jan Garbarek - pure originality. Nobody can play the sax like him. Famous for his work with Keith Jarrett, but also experiments a lot. For example, the album "Ragas and sagas" with Ustad Fateh Ali Khan is
really something else.

4. Cannonball Adderley (and his quintet) - very popular in the '60s. Close to be-bop, but not that eccentric. He plays alto sax, and his brother Nat plays the trumpet. This is where the famous Austrian pianist Joe Zawinul (who recently passed) started his career.

5. Miles Davis - the king of "cool jazz". Y'all know everything about him I guess.

6. Pat Metheney - guitar, fusion. He and his pianist Lyle Mays brought ambiental flavours to jazz.

OK, I'm sure that I'm forgetting a whole bunch of musicians, but I reserve the right to add some more when I remember.

Also, I'd like to mention Andreas Vollenweider. He's a multi-instrumentalist, altough his original instrument is harp. Jazz, ambient, all played on harp - amazing.

Oh, yes - I know this is a topic about artists, but all of you who like jazz, try checking out the label called ECM.

Nice topic, btw.

P.S. I recently discovered these new European guys, called European Jazz Trio. They are taking famous tunes (including classical stuff, like Mozart etc) and playing it in a very smooth, jazzy style. You can check them out at youtube:

What!? No SRV yet? Stevie Ray is the shit!

I dig some John Mayer when his mouth is shut and he's soloing in a bluesy fashion.

Miles Davis with the fusion is pretty killer.

I don't have any names in the front of my brain but I've always found jazz flute to be amazing.

Spycht, if you like jazz flute, try getting your hands on the music from Herbie Mann.
