For full-on psytrance I always separate bass into 2 layers: Low and High. I use the low section as a mono channel with compression, then the hight I usually make differend things, like exciting, distorting, chorus, phaser, eq and compressor.
In other genres I don't feel the need of layering and just with some EQ and Comp.

+1, but the most important part is how it work's with kick, phaser on the lowend is very nice but it takes time to achieve, its like a small ondulation feel, very cool when u get it right, but i doesn't happen everyday lol           Tudo que é melhor e mais superior em mim saúda tudo que é melhor e mais alto em si

Sounds good... If you do something mad, and would like to, I could maybe find some time to port to mac, and even set up a platform independent project using the JUCE framework. Drop me a line at buding<at>amygdala<dot>dk if you're interested!
