GTN: you can also apply to use Midi Quantization to make drums more groovy. You can apply swing to hi-hat patterns for instance. In Cubase SX you can also extract a groove from an audio-sample by creating hit-points rex-stylee and creating a 'user-groove' from those hit-points. You can use this user-groove to quantize your programmed drum parts for instance. This works particularly good for hi-hat and shaker patterns.

Simon,

I'm with you on using delay. Sometimes I'll be working with a groove and it just won't have that 'feel' that I want, but then I'll through on a 3/4 delay and boom - it's starts swinging and grooving.

This doesn't always work, but sometimes it turns a boring groove into something exciting.

Granted I also love to use compression to give my percussion more punch, EQing to make it mesh, reverb for breath, and anything else I can think of.

but yeah...the main thing for me it's to listen to Tracks what Organicparadox does ....

http://www.organicparadox.com/private/organicparadox-internal_rotation_128kbps.mp3

the sounds is good also the mix ...
but for me are there less percussions ....
just a few ch and ohs....and a snare...

the percussions he uses ...i also don't equlize ...
but for example Toms and snare i equlize ...

here is a Track of my ones ...
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/9/thujonmusic.htm ...

if u want to listen to my on check :
Freakulizer - Mental and emotional ... i just uploaded this song today.... that how i make the percussions ...exactly how i explained ...

can we cut the bullshit ...... ?

i want to say one and last thing we all here so good in sound design so better shut up and compare .....

Thujon , Organicparadox said that he agree with Kaz , maybe little in agressive form ,,,but if you were sure about yourself you would never compare yourself to him and your own tastes .....

if you want my opinion .... your track sound design sucks , bass overlow ... bad balance of any element ...hehe Organicparadox not better ... sorry heard Thujon's track first then his ....... you guys kill me ...sound makers ...lol .....

probably Thujon have more rights .... but still .... we all need to shut up

GTN learn alone at home .... everyone have their own ideas about sound design which not much better than yours ..... so stay tuned to your own monitors .....

you can listen only to two man here Colin OOOD(everything) and Zildoggo (if it's about synthesis procces) others know nothing ... so can only mistake you ...

To sum it up, you whatever you want as long as it sounds good.
There are more than one technique to get it, and you can combine many techniques. I compress, eq, and delay. Others don't. It's the result that counts, not the method.

Very flattering, but utterly incorrect.

here s what we make usually:
have all drums on individual channels, i make a group track, a bit of hipass and hard compression on it, and then i can set on the individual tracks, how much i send to this group channel.
this results in having the originals and the hardcompressed track on each other, meaning a fatter sound. of course you need to lower the volume a bit.
hope it makes sense

If I understand...

So you have the original percussion playing, each on their own track. But then you also send a bit of each track to a group channel that has compression and hipass on it. In the end you are blending the original tracks with this group track?

Interesting... Do you do much compression (if any) on the individual tracks, or do you mostly EQ?

thanks for the tip - I'm going to try this out!
