Impulse Tracker is better.
Shitty wav converter, but still it's better than FT.

hey philip... and all..

btw, Impulse tracker is not better from the fast tracker 3(the newest ft)...
because the impulse has his shitty dos interpulation and the ft3 using windows sound, that is much better.
anywayz i think all the trackerz pretty sux, but they very good to learn how to work..

Ok, so I can tell you that tracking is not
a very good way to learn.
The tools you use change your prespective you have over your entire work.
Things you migh do with a tracker you'll probably never do with a sequencer and vice versa (composition wise).
That's why people here are desparately looking for
a midi tracker!
I can tell you from my experience that keeping a good structure on a tracker is the easy quite easy since you get a pretty good picture of how your track is constructed, but getting into the details is pretty hard, which will probably drive you to
make your music somewhat repetitive and less
interesting. On the other hand - when using a sequencer you might come with some elaborate compositions, but it might also become very messy.

I don't really need a MIDI Tracker. Just a tracker with MIDI export to put it in my Cakewalk. :-(

Boris, I know nothing about this stuff- but I guess Michael meant that you don't start driving in a Ferrari- you start in a Fiat 127. ;-)

I still think it's best to start right away from
the real thing, if that's what you are going after finally.
All the skills I got using trackers got wasted when I started working with a sqeuencer.
It was allso very hard for me to make that transition, that's why I recommend working only with sequencers. And about midi trackers -
ofcrouse you'r gonna use them as exporters. That way you get the perfect combination - good structure + complicated details.

Look ppl:

if you wanna start with every subject, it's not have to be music, you HAVE to start with something simple, and then to improve your stuff and knowledge..

if you wanna make music, you don't need to start spend a lot of money if you even don't know how to eq right, and how to use effects and more technicall stuff...(don't catch me on words..:)

so if you wanna start you have to work with something simple with not the best sound nowadays and slowly and carefully improve your studio...

remember, it's worth nothing if you have million dollars studio if you don't know how EVERYTHING works there...

Hiez,
just wanted to add to Michael's that a tracker can really expose your musical creativity because you do everything fast and easy.

Starting diverting that work into a studio work is another thing, once you know how to do it, you can do it wherever - a tracker or the gear kind of work. That's how I see things anyway :)
