let's put it that way, if I had an original copy of a famous painting and I really need some money, I will sell it to someone that has a lot of money and really loves the painting.
but if I already have just the right amount of money and I don't need any more I will sell it to someone that really loves it but doesn't have a lot of money, and I will sell it to him in a low price.
maybe I will even give it to someone that I love for free.
or maybe I will just keep it to myself if I reall really like it.

and about the Ultimae albums, I have only originals ! and my whole collection of CD's is made of original copies, I never even download music.
so don't speak on things that you don't know about me.

cheers !

what I'm saying is that there should be an equal chance for both wealthy people and less wealthy people to buy the music they love and the The Chilling Spirit really gave an equal chance but in the bidding style of selling on ebay like he sold it there are more chances for the more wealthy people to get it.

I think that when someone is selling an out of print CD on ebay it's better to sell the CD in it's original price, and this way the person who saw it first will get it. this way the chance will be equal for both wealthy people and less wealthy people as well.

now, if you really need some money and to sell it in very high price will help you, so it's reasonable I guess.

but if you don't really need that money, why to make a profit from it and I'm sure that the The Chilling Spirit knew that there is a chance for him to profit from the bidding style of selling on ebay.
maybe like damon said that person knew about the reprint and maybe that person WANTED the 1st release and was willing to pay such a high price .... who knows...

now to know that there is going to be a reprint of the CD you are selling and still sell it on a much higher price from the original one is not a very nice thing to do in my opinion, again - unless you really need the money.

so if you can manage without making a profit from other people's music, please do! it can make some music lovers very happy.
that is what I believe. because in a way you are also making a profit from other people's love for music by taking advantage of their love.

and for other music lovers, I think it's important to stay updated about the music you love and if you can, always try to support the artists by buying their music from the online shops or from the regular shops like a lot of people in this forum are constantly doing, including me.

cheers !

or labels could wise up, keep aside and sell their first editions on ebay. it's not that hard to do.

Bodhisattva - you're trying to blend morals into a system that knows none. At the end of the day, nobody's being forced to do anything, and to suggest that the point of any of this is to make a profit is besides the point...

Unless - as you said - you "really need the money"..? This seems to be the main point of your argument, how do you explain it?
It's ok to behave in a bad way - as you feel it to be - if you really "need to"?

You're not giving people any credit either, suggesting they might be "misinformed" or "tricked" into buying an album for $90. Personally, when I see an album I really want, and it's at a high price, I see my job as a tool to get that album - putting effort into it - making the deal so much more satisfactory.

Taking advantage of people's love for music? I think that's taking it too far. If people *really* want something, they should do as you say and buy it when it's out. What's the big deal?

I understand you're trying to present a good-hearted spirit about selling / trading your collection of music, and I applaude you for it.

The point is, once the CD's are out of stock, people start collecting and trading - where the prices are obviously higher than before. That's the reality of it, and as everyone knows that, there's no problem. I don't collect Ferrari's because I cant afford them. That doesnt mean I expect people to give me free Ferrari's, or sell them to me at a cheaper price.. How can the vintage Ferrari owners possibly "exploit my love for fast automobiles"?

we're all involved in things we can afford - hopefully!          Goa Goa-trance & Psytrance parties in Oslo, Norway:

no it's not ok to behave in a bad way because you really need the money, you're right about that mattman.

but I was trying to be careful cause who knows what are the reasons for people to sell their CD's in high prices, maybe some of them need the extra money cause they have 3 children and they only try to support them in the best way they can, who knows what are the reasons... so I was trying not to judge anyone even if it sounded like I did.

the post that annoyed me a bit was the post where The Chilling Spirit said " Heh, I just ordered a new Hydroponic Garden after I sold my "original" for almost 90$ last year. Guess the buyer did not know it was getting reprinted... "

it just doesn't sound good to me.
anyway every person will act in the way that he or she believes is right.

So anyway, I don't own any of the Fahrenheit series yet, and I have decided to hold off on purchasing any for the time being as I am hoping that after the 7th edition comes out then there will be a "complete" box set...

fingers crossed, hopefully not in vain.

You know, my idea for all these things is this.
Make a box set for the existing 6 - right, but when the 7th one comes out, it fits right in there, because it comes with one slot open for the last release. Isn't that a great idea?           Goa Goa-trance & Psytrance parties in Oslo, Norway:

Good point Mattman. I like you're thinking.

I still can't afford to buy the box set at the moment. Maybe i'll start saving my pennies and eventually I'll get there (hopefully before it sells out)....
