Title : “stereodust”
Artist : Facu Cruz & Nicholas Van Orton
Format : LP and digital
Cover : http://www.kumquat-tunes.com/index1.php

Kumquat is issuing a 3 track LP featuring Argentinian producers Facu Cruz teamed up with Nicholas Van Orton. Separately they have already released a respectable amount of tracks at labels such as Bit records, Existence, and Balkan for the former, or Pure Substance, Bellarine and Flash for the latter. Let’s take a look:

Stereodust
The core version effectively combines an irrestible gargling, rumbling, deep-as-hell bass upon which softly reverbed pads boogy with a prog-house edge. After the break it’s all wrapped in just enough tribal percussion, punctuated by snare and hi-hat arrangements and spiced with a trippy little melody, to send you onto the dance floor. Peak time music with grateful audience response guaranteed.

Stereodust (Nicholas Van Orton remix)
This rmx, delivered by one half of the duo, features a few discreet, tried and true arrangements from the best electro-house wizards such as Dousk or Beckers : a cool voice sample, zooming synth, housey pads, and dripping percussions taken from the minimal sonic arsenal. But the whole construction remains effective and original, with an acute sense of rhythmic build-up. Another dance-floor asset in your case.

Stereodust (Facu Cruz remix)
This rmx, conducted by the other half of the duo, is like the Janus face of the previous one: totally different yet familiar. Facu Cruz takes us into the realm of groovy Tech House à la MyMy with a nice intertwining of rhythmic lines, some of them infused with a zest of humour. The piece culminates in a staggering break in which the dripping sample gradually collapses into cascading sound effects that evoke glasses falling and shattering from a shelf. Thumbs up!

Bottom line
Kumquat hereby delivers a surprising Christmas present from relatively unknown Argentinian producers. No redundancy in this package, just really nice dj tools.
