Well, I guess most of us hv past through quite some bad times for loving the muzik as we do...

U know, pp making faces when u talk about raves or psyparties or festivals...

Or thrashing the scene saing itīs only for drug adicts and all those neo-hippies just should get a job and stuff...

It seems to me quite useless to try and convince then they r just being judgemental... some times I just canīt hold up things inside and try and try and try... usually uselessly...

In my work place there used to be this woman that came with a little smile in her face and that tone in her voice: Oh Pedro, when is the next 'Rave Party'? Once I just lost it and said: When u die! Iīll be stomping, shaking, bouncing, jumping, banging and stomping a little more all over ur coffin and continue it to the graveyard... and on and on and on... (I know itīs not a pleasant thing to say )

My question is... hv u ever 'won' (what a terrible word) such an argument? What did u appeal to? What kind of arguments hv u used?

Or if itīs not possible to 'win' (argh) how to get out of it in a educated PLURish manner?

Thnks to all in advance...

i used to think that psy wasn't drug music..

then i went to samothraki and saw how many trancers actually do drugs..

started wondering how many went there because of the music and how many went there because of the drugs..

okok.. ofcourse no1 went there just for the drugs.. but i'm sure they would have had terrible time without their drugs.. or something like that..           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."

I get it, they'r judgemental

You should add the "we dress up in cyberdog party gear" type, the kids, the regular drug users, the acidheads, E-tards, posers, and so on, and so on.

Psytrance parties are foremost a gathering of trance freaks from all over the place, of all shapes and sizes. You can't uphold peace without being peaceful, you can't be loved and yet not love, you can't be part of something you don't like, and respect given is respect earned. Unless people stop telling others what they should do, telling people the bad instead of the good, there is no PLUR. And that's one thing that comes from the person, only then from around.

i like to keep it underground and enjoy my raves

i enjoy normal rock kind of scene with nonravers too ....................

so i dont talk abt raves at all

not that i cant fight over an argument

but somebody's signature in this/Indian forum says

"Dont argue with fools they will bring u down to their level and beat u with experience " may be not fools but still i have conveyed what to do .....and @ drope if your work mates do know ur rave scene and comments then my advice to u if u dont mind ..... is to smile warmly and say GOOOD MORNING etc.

Most of my friends who have a prejudice against the type of parties & music I like to attend usually never "come around" to being fully sold on it. But the ones whose relationships I truly care about have always seen how important it is to me, and respect my decisions on music and social life. They might never like the music or community, but they don't give me shit about it.

The only people I would say who were initially negative about that I have "won over" on it are my parents. They always liked the music (my mom wore out a goa mix tape I made for her in 1996 ), but they didn't like the idea of the parties. Too many drugs, too dangerous, etc...

Eventually, they saw it was of central importance to me (and my sister, and eventually my girlfriend/wife), it had a really good effect on me (us), and that it was not an excuse for me to get fucked up on drugs. So, they became interested in it. They asked questions and were very receptive to the idea that the people who were in our "scene" were more like a family. The more of the community they met, they felt we were into something really nice and good.

One of my happiest moments was seeing my parents having a total blast at a proper psytrance party (following my wedding ). That was the first time they saw it first-hand, and they had no problems with anything. They loved every second they were there.

I don't think you can "win" an argument by trying to convince somebody with words. I think they have to see it be a positive influence in your life over time for them to accept it as not trivial.

I agree, I have heard alot of negative views about trance parties. Unfortunately since psytrance is such an important part of life I cannot stop talking about it to people. What I really hate is when I somebody tells me that most of the people in these parties a jobless junkies, I cannot believe how far away from the truth that is. Most of the people I meet at parties are very hard working people, infact I have seen a whole bunch actually go to work in the morning right after a party (Alright some of them were still tripping, but thats not important). Another thing that pisses me off is people who ridicule the music because they don't get it. Not to sound ellitist, but I feel that the reason I understand the music over people who do not is simply because I am more evolved than them. I have reached a higher state of conciousness and would love to have their company in my god like state (sorry - getting a bit carried away). Yes I agree there is a higher chance of finding drugs at these parties, but nobody is forcing you to do them. Its not like you go to a party and trip and fall into a puddle of acid. Those who want to do it should be allowed to IMO. So the next time somebody ridicules your psy-lifestyle just think of them as people who will not be able to communicate with the aliens when they land on this planet.

They are afraid of psy, because they're afraid of the unknow...
Here in Brazil, my friend Drope, people listen to radio and watch TV, they become zombie people...
I say: "I like psychedelic trance parties".
Instead of saying: "well, I never went to a psychedelic trance party, how is it?" They say: "I know what's a rave, I saw on televison, it's where people gather to trade and do drugs... or is it like the rave-country I went to?"
They don't know it, but are full of preconceptions about it.

Also every party with electronic music is now a rave... All about marketing... Everyone wants to go to Rave or a tranceparty... Ridiculous...

Try to do this:
Find a pretty girl, go to home and ask her mother and father: Can I go with your daughter to a rave party? You'll never got their permission, neither a chance to explain yourself.
People must open their minds! I went to the Trancendence, a 6 days festival, and did not used drugs. Obviously I already used drugs in my life, but I can choose when I want to, this is called freedom.
Respect!

Well there is a good chance Jesus was a stoner!

I also hate when people judge me because of the psytrance scene! And how the police judge it! The police are fine with gadges paying money into wankery lines getting wasted on coke / booze, getting agressive and starting fights but a 'hippy' smoking a spliff in a field and bouncing around is clearly a danger to society and it must be stopped at all costs???

Yes my friend Kat, cause this mighty hippie might find out something that would destroy every relligion and every economic sistem... happiness... here and now... not after he dies, not when he gets payed, not when some gov or org do something... here and now, happiness, just for the sake of it.

well can we do, the psychedlic trance scene is full of stuff that can be easily be stereotyped and be thought bad of.
If you try to tell your friends that psychedelic scenen is not about drugs, and your friend goes to a party and sees about 90%of the club Messed up of course hes gonna have a bad image.
Everybody who doesnt know me thinks, i do drugs because i am in the psy business. But on the contrary i dont smoke cigarettes or do drugs.
I think your just gonna have to live with it. Its a matter of if you enjoy the music enough, and you dont care about what people think.
Personally i dont really give a damn about people who are closed minded, and think that the scene is full of bad things. They are just missing out on just another part of life.
