if you had to choose between fabfilter pro q and sonnox eq, my advice would be go for fab pro q. the HP,LP filters in fab are superior to sonnox eq and fab pro-q also has minimal phase and linear phase modes. |

ohhh come on! you know better than that...!!
waves is also "pro" but price only cos they are even free alternatives to most of their plugs that are equal if not better.
sonnox is nice but sonalksis is better in my book.. and price means nothing.
i can polish a turd and sell it for diamond price... but still a turd!

listen to orange.
if you desperately want to spend some money in a plugin suite i'd also suggest sonalksis.
price usually means very little.
also, almost half of my tools are freeware.

I use mostly linear phase EQ when I need to process bass frequencies in basstrack. I think that this will preserve more dynamics / energy in the bass track.
I once did a test with 6-8 EQ:s (Waves EQ, REQ, Sonnox, GlissEQ, CurveEQ, Waves LinEQ, ElectriQ and I don't remember what else), I did same boost or cuts and noticed that there was a huge difference between the linear phase (CurveEQ, LinEQ) and other EQs. I looked the equalization results with exoscope and equalizing with any other EQ frequencies between 20-150 created some kind of shift to the waveform so that + side peak was much quieter than + side peak (but it was not DC-offset, I checked it). What this does is that it leaves less dynamics for bass than if you have a waveform which has equal db peaks in both sides.
Check it out, I bet that you will see it too. although I am not sure if this is of any significance or not

I'm using the Oxford EQ on all major sounds. The intervals in values is a lot more precise than Logic's EQ and placebo or not, it also sounds better.
Peace out.

I agree 100% with all of this... apart from the 'peace out' bit - is that really necessary?

Nope.
Peace out.
