hi mk47
yes, the order of signal processors generally matters (we're talking inserts here). consider this example: an eq, then a compressor or vice-versa. if you eq out e.g. subs, the compressor won't "see" them and probably won't react (on them). if you compress first, then eq, the compressor behaves in another fashion because it might be triggered by low-end signals (which you only remove after compression). so it matters here. there are other combinations of signal processors where it is not so obvious though. in these cases, try out and listen.
hope my answer helped,
cheers

sometimes it matters ,and sometimes not.
for reverb and eq , no i dont think it matters that much , only depend possibly on your reverb filter and eq settings.. also only if u go extreme ...
when compressor involed with delay it get more complex , as well other stuff with compression..
lucky in fruity u change the order just to see how it works out.. while in sx u have to save presets and re-open evrything
defintly if u have some deep phaser have your eq cut after (since it can add alot of resonanse in some areas) , if u have limiter make it last in the chain (otherwhise stuff might go over the tresh) etc.
all depend on the purpose of the plugin and what u want if to take effect on.

i most of the time put the eq last, some of the dub delay i use add alot of bass
Even when you already cut it before
Same goes for some reverb plugs and other fx
For compression i dont really know, dont compress much sounds. if i do i just try it both to see what works better on that sound.
Because no sound is the same and some times the order can add just a little bit more character to the sound

The audio runs through the chain in the order that you line them up in..sorry if you know this and I'm being too simple, just keep in mind that whatever you put on a chain gets its input from the previous fx. You can hear the difference more when you involve compressors and complex fx (as opposed to reverb and eq, something like psp nitro or something more preset based). |
