FTP (File Transfer Protocol like ron said) is used to transfer files over the internet.
Basically it's like a normal web-site, but instead of getting a page, you get a list of directories and files.

ya! and instead of saving lousy images and html code u get to save Reason 2 C.D ISO an err.. cough.. i mean... u just look at the beutifull directories and share SHAREWARE LEGAL files with your friends and loved ones, like i do ^_^

man .... u need a program which can use the
FTP protocol called FTP client.
with it u can connect to FTP server and download
stuff.
like with browser u can download web pages or
other stuff - with FTP program u can download
them, but without nicee pics etc.
u only see directory lists and files..
look for a programs like
WS_FTP or LeechFTP or CuteFTP and read the help
