i started producing in 2008... i thought this would be fine... well... now its nearly 2012 and ive had to realize that this small peace of $%((/%& was keeping me away of being creative TOTALY.
i got my 88key masterkeyboard today and couldnt believe what great meleodies came out in no time...
ive never felt something is more important for my production. (except treatment/speakers)

25 key keyboards are simply not enough, and 49 also tends to be too little, but they also have their advantages: With less keys you have to do more with less, resorting to chord inversions and to a more complex math whole playing. Also, you can benefit a lot from using both keyboards at the same time, being able to have two synths configured on demand.
I have a 49 key keyboards which I use for normal keyboard functions (but my next one will be bigger) and have three uses for my old 25 keyboard: as a separate synth (for low bass sounds and chords), as a synth effect unit (having one shots and stuff configures, like fast lfo's with delays and stuff for just-in-time effects) and as an effect unit (to have static midi mappings on master or track effects). So it got de-promoted (it isn't my master keyboard anymore) but it still lives
Plus, you have stuff on your novation your 88 masterkeyboard doesn't have (knobs, faders, pads, X-Y pad and pitch bend/modulation wheel with a joystick [I prefer these to the round ones like your masterkeyboard]). Try to get the most with what you have.
One question: If you have bought the 88 keyboard first, do you think you would be better, or has your 25 keyboard only enabled you to evolve unto a certain point? I believe the latter is true.

@knocz
i wont sell my 25key because of the controller functions.
that was also the reason why i spended more money for it.
the 25key kept me away from learning play the piano &
harmonies and it didnt gave the inspiration because i
couldnt hear the connection between oktaves/chords/notes...
i always felt my music theory is bad and i wanted to take
lessons finally, but i didnt really thought that the 25key
was keeping me away from learning it by myself, so yeah...
the funny thing is, my girl gots a piano and i played it from
time to time... then i wondered why i cant get out such cool
stuff at my studio lool.
finally ill need a new desk and found some nice things,
i will deconstruct the 88 and build it into my desk, to get
fast access to everything (controller, mouse etc...)
check it! like this... ill just make it extendable, so i can pull it
out under my desk. if you wonder why i want to integrate
it "in" the desk, thats because it saves space between my
legs and the desks surface, so the desk wont be that high.
cheers

haha so true man. i have a 61 key m-audio oxygen that has been nice, but I switch back and forth with that and the 88 weighted key kurzweil k2500x.
That studio set up would be realllllly sick. You should go for it man.
I feel like those smaller keyboards are for people that have to travel a lot, or just for gigging and spinning knobs and stuff, which is cool obviously, just a little limited for creating if you want to play a lot.
I have trouble bringing my laptop and trying to make songs without a keyboard when i go to cafes, so something small like that novation would probably rock.
