Hi there,
i want to buy a tool for extreme voice manipulation.. so far i have looked into:
melodyne, autotune, vari audio, camel audio alchemy resythesizer synth
i kinda like the features of autotune, melodyne and so on for repitching your vocals but what about using these for fx purposes, like eg sphonglish sounding stuttering, morphing, reshaping.. which one is good for extreme manipulation? as a cubase user the 4->5 update was too expensive in my opinion, but how about the variaudio and pitchcorrect tools in c5 - can you manipulate voice and audio as deep and good as in melodyne with these? melodyne is quite expensive so that would make the update worth for me...
and how about alchemy, a totally different approach, it can make everything i want i guess from what the demos say but i am not sure if it is as easy to work with in a project??
any comments welcome

You need no specific tool but creativity.
- Pitch n Stretch
- Manual chopping arranging
- Fx like: Chorus, flanger, verbs, metalizers, etc.
- Bitcrush
- Granular manipulation
- Vocoders
It all depends on what you want to do, is it for singing? or just for creating monster voices? Just what do you understand by "extreme manipulation".
I love to make chains with orange vocoder, then add all sorts of modulations and fx. Always have in mind what you want to do, no specific vst will do the work for you.
Although i remember a program called "Voice thing" by antares, pretty fun to play with:

For pro pitch correction, Waves Tune, Autotune and Melodyne are definitly the best tools available.
Apart from that, you can do lots of manipulation for free.
Slutter fx with DFX Buffer Override, Dbglitch.. and dbStretch!
Weird pitch changes with SSL X-Orcism...
Distortion with CamelCrusher, Cyanide2, Quadrafuzz, etc!
You can create crazzy fx chains, with automation, turn plugs on and off!
Use your imagination.

I've recently been looking into getting a similar effect for my vocals. Shpongle uses an Eventide for his vocals I've heard - since I can't afford one, what would be the poor man's option ?
The Variaudio in C5 is good, maybe not as good as melodyne - but definitely more for corrective tuning than anything too experimental. |
