Thats a pretty generic term. You might try to import it as raw data in soundforge.

or import the actual .dat-file?

I think there is no way to use a .dat sound file. dat files are project resource compressed by the compiler. so you need acces to the original project source to read a simple digital audio file. otherwise you can manually live record the sound from the game.
