Hi guys! I was just listening to Terrafractyl's Chrysalis album and laughed my ass off at the Venture Brother's bit...and it got me to thinking

there countless examples in psy-tracks of quotes from authors, bits from movies, etc. Assuming that you have the media in question (say, for example, an episode of a cartoon) how do you go about ripping the sound bit out of it and saving it as a nice sample?

perused the sticky at the top a bit but didn't find anything very useful. Does anyone know of a good program or method that will extract it nice and clean-like?

if its a dvd, this is fairly easy...you can rip the ac3 from the episode/movie using DVD Decryptor & then simply edit/cut using something like sound forge

OK if your computer is where this audio is coming from( playing dvd in your comp) your basicly just recording the out put.
This is how I do it with a fire box and wavelab...

I take my main out put on my sound card ( were my studio monitors are connected ) and run them back into my INs channel 3-4 and set up wavelab to record my channels 3-4 ins. That gives me a stereo .wav sample and you can save at whatever bit rate you use...
There are easier ways of doing this but its basicly just figuring how to set up your audio to record. Basic           \\\"Invoking the inner dancing buddha with future frequencies from beyond\\\" ~GyPsy

if you have an a movie file like avi or mpeg, and you use cubase you can extract just the audio from it. You go to file/import/import audio from video           www.musicproductionnatural.com || www.facebook.com/djamoeba | facebook page

It will extract the ac3 stream, for sure...its actually ment for ripping DVDs in order to create xvid/divx/mpeg rips...but since it can separate streams I find it comes in handy for this use.

With Audacity (free) you can set it to record any sound coming out of your soundcard. All you have to do is hit record, then play the section of the movie/show you want audio from and viola, it records you an nice audio clip.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound
