hey guys,
i just bought an external usb hd to backup my tracks and all my samples....
that way will be easier to carry them around, and i won t need to have all files in my desktop and in my notebook as well.
but now it occured to me that i could install cubase and the vsts on it as well... i tryed to install some other softwares on it, like some games, and they worked fine...
here is the question:
has n1 ever tryed to install cubase @ an external hd? is it possible for me to do that? im afraid that cubase won t run as good as it is running on my desktop.
ps.: its a 200 gb sata external usb hd... and @ my desktop i have a 160 gb hd...
plz halp“!!

It will run just fine, i've done it before when i was working only with my laptop, but it's not necessary at all unless you want otherwise. I think it's a common misunderstanding that by installing music programs and vsti's(not just simple drug-n-drop .dll vsti's) to an external disk or other partition, in case of system disk crash and operating system's reinstallation the music programs will not be affected. But that's not true since all programs when being installed write certain files to the system disk and therefore they need to be reinstalled.

oh.. thanks a lot man...
i was afraid that when istalled, cubase could send some .dlls to the win folder or some other place, and that would make it impossible to run properlly on an external hd!!
ill try it right now then!!
ps.: installing vsts all over again sux =//

And to add even more,
when you are installing something, it means you install it on the system - not on a drive.
This is something to think about when considering OSX btw... no installations.
