i think i read here once that the best placement of a subwoofer in your work space would be on the floor.I did that today and put it under my desk. It sounds kind of the same. The bass seems more distant. Please explain to me the dynamic of this becuz im lost.I thought it would make things better but it feels the same.Thanks.           www.soundcloud.com/kabbalisticvillage

I don't use a sub, but the best trick I heard explained is:

Step 1) Place your Subwoofer in your chair, in the 'sweet spot' where you normally sit

Step 2) Crawl around on the ground in your room until you find a place where the bass sounds correct

Step 3) Place your Subwoofer in that spot

there is no such thing like a sweet spot for sub.. Subwoofer is the only box that doesn't need a specific position of placement.
It will sound all the same if its in the corner or in the center. Because of the low frequencies and their lambda and the small studio rooms.           https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden

give it some bass heavy music. it plays low bass frequencies.

personally i found the sub with standard placement pretty pointless. i'd have to turn it way up to hear much, while a few metres away from my desk it would sound huge, but that might be my room (not exactly rectangular). i still haven't found a good alternative place for the sub. so i'll sometimes crawl on the floor while eq'ing bass frequencies, so that i can hear the details ;-)

What about on your desk?placing it somewhere between your computer and monitors..it sounds awesome then but on the floor i dont see the point.           www.soundcloud.com/kabbalisticvillage

it need to be time aligned with the main to sound right , do you have a phase knob on it ? measurment help for this, or place it at same distance of your ears than the monitors woofers and it should be ok . ( with leaving the phase at 0 )
you can adjust a little by ears with a psy kick/bass...when it sound right it s right.. but using a measurment mic is easier

but if you dont hear anyhting it s maybe not pluged right or broken ?

i find this to work good even for monitors with something like a psy kick bass playing ,for finding a spot with good kick & bass drive before fine tuning with measurments / listening test

its not broke.there def. is some sound.its not a legit fancy sub.i got this sub in like a small appliance store attached to two little speakers which i ripped off and hooked up the usb up to old stereo speakers from like a boombox..this is all i got for now until i can get decent monitors.....it seemed to be sounding better when it was on my desk and now its on the floor..thats why im asking.           www.soundcloud.com/kabbalisticvillage
