"Experience" compilation on Neurobiotic (NBR CD 001)

(already out for 3 yrs ... but as i've said before, i'm new here - just like to add some dutch spice to the menu)

Tracklist:

1. "Frozen" - PARASENSE
2. "LSD" - DROIDLOCK
3. "Warriors" - ETNICA
4. "Microscopic" - EARTHLING
5. "Jazz is dead" - COLOR DROPS
6. "Bamboo Bola" - RASTALIENS
7. "Jalan Jalan" - SPIRITUAL
8. "Moc Paproci" - BIGWIGS
9. "Merygar" - VACUUM

A very nice 9 track release, first one on this newly born italian label (new in holland, that is... my last dive in the Roman underground is about eleven years ago when i happily shocked some people overthere with a tape from dj Dano, so what's really happening down there... i dunno, 'cept for this one!).

This cd kicks of with "FROZEN" by PARASENSE, starting of with a bit tribal, mellowish sound which is ran over by an almost typical Parasence-style-Wall-of-Bass-in-yer-Face after half a minute or so. Fatt One - what else can i add.

The only two tracks from Italy on this one are "WARRIORS" from ETNICA and "MERYGAR" by VACUUM.
Etnica surprised me with a bit of a progressive style track, at least, progressive if you compare it with their old stuff. Sounds like they grew a lot more mature, just as psypeople like KoxBox, who surprised a big lot of us with their new sound on The Great Unknown, which kind of set the pace for the direction of Saikopod, later on after that.
"WARRIORS" is a nice psy-fi track, with some weird "goa-horns" (x:qse me if the synthline is more something of a traditional italian copper horn), a steady 303ish bassline and some nice StarTrek samples. Nice one for outdoors or starters.
"VACUUM", the closing track on this comp, on the other hand, is a bit of an inbetween track : inbetween "where will i play this" and "do they really want to hear this now" Bit weird experiment with goth sounds, eighties synths and flat drum sounds... maybe it does the trick in a tripped out chill out or afternoon on a spiral party.

DROIDLOCK from France put up a nice bassfull stormer with their track "LSD".
Nice flat kick and spooky sounds, but i'm still trying to figure out why they too use the "they gave me the lsd and they took me to the hotel" sample from Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas (as heard in "LSDance" by Psysex)? Searching for the right gimmick but stuck with an old sample, me thinks.
The other lsd-vocals are a bit lame, in my ears. Would've been nice if they were kept on a more subtle level or more funked up.

But then.. what was that? Jumping in my face, sticking to my ears and making me move spastickly across my living room, bumping into walls and furniture?
Listen to "MICROSCOPIC" by EARTHLING and you will hear a floorfiller by GMS without the hands of Bansi & Riktam. This track by Celli & Cushi from Ibiza really knocked me over, first time it hit me. Funny, groovy, crispy and pretty unstoppable. If the dancefloor is dead & empty and all the freax are falling asleep out there, blending with the wallpaper like origami flowers, put on this track and -Alacazam!- they live & jump & smile!

More of a trippy track comes from COLOR DROPS. "JAZZ IS DEAD" also fits a good part of the GMSstyle groove (also tagged these days as "Ibiza Rave"), but has its own tricks up the sleeve, like there is a twisted sample from Frank Zappa ("Jazz is not dead, it just smells funny", as to be heard on one of his live albums). Grooves on and on and on...

RASTALIENS take us deep into the jungle (concrete that is, as they are from Germany and not Angola) with "BAMBOO BOLA". I dunno x-actly what he's trying to say, but at some point you hear this doped-out lame-ass of a dj, asking something like "duh..what shall i play for you?" They answer you'll hear, says it all.

"SPIRITUAL" by JALAN JALAN may also be an Italian release, judging from the names of the producers, but it doesn't say where they are from, as it does with the other artists on this cd. Progressive style track with a lot of morning-potential.

Track number eight, my personal favorite, "MOC PAPROCI" by BIGWIGS, is a pretty funny jazzy one, has nice dark synths and a misty, gallopping baseline to start with, and some weird subliminal synthlines and samples to follow. Other sounds that make my skin go goosebumps and turn my face into a wide smile, i will not try to explain in mere words. Just play it - and try to sit still (how's that for a challenge) !!

Think this albumreview takes longer to read than it takes to listen to the album, but this is just the way to fill your head twice!
Good brainfood.

Havent seen any review out here, so -3 yrs after its release- i thought i'd post it here, as it has vanished from goatrance.nl after they re:did the site.

NOTE : Invite your neighbours before you turn it on! I'm still on a very edgy level with mine since i first played it...
