I have had my head in the sand with droney idm ambient that I haven;t been able to check out the ethnic chill, which was what got me into chill to start with. I saw tribal matrix and was all like oh shit people are still making ethno stuff. What from those of you still in the ethnic scene are some good releases of late, or has everyone gone glitchy?

Dubsahara.com , digital desert music full of bass and subliminal bliss...
Greg's work has really blown me away recently as I had really gone off anything with too much enthnic , eastern influences but he sure know's how to combine the spirit of traditional instrumentation with an electronic edge without sounding souless and unoriginal like so much in this genre.
Seahorse Transform comes highly recommended too, 2 years old now and full and smoking dubiness. Lots of Indian sounds on this one , more Varanasi than Persia but pretty pleasing stuff.
Also check out Peak Records va - Tranchilizer , a good combo and beats and trippiness with a fair bit of world/ethnic flavour, always at the front of my mind when planning or playing a set. |
