Hypothetically you have a video cilp with sound from the infrared camera on the front end of a attack heliciopter in Iraq or the 'stan for instance and the audio was of the pilot and gunner selectivley targeting and ripping to pieces four people with a 30mm cannon. "Auto range on", "hit him", "hit the truck", "there is one wounded.... hit him"
Would you use this audio which for some people was very real, in a track? Why? Why not? |

Many people dancing to a track will be on drugs. Many will not, but those that are high or in deep trance will be in a very suggestible state, and very receptive to words and phrases coming at them from within the music.
I personally would not touch that sample with a 10 foot bargepole as I have no interest in inserting negative images into my music and giving people a bad experience on the dancefloor - let alone the moral issue of using recordings of someone killing people.
There's too much violence in the world as it is without bringing it into a space which is for many people an area of personal growth and positive change.

Unh...i agree with Colin that the world have to much violence, but i wonder that music many times express our feeelings ,what we r living...
i think that will be very important the song on wich it was include.
Imagine Solaris from Astrix using a sample like this.
There will be no problem cause the song brings a lot o happines on it. I dont know if it may cause a badtrip to someone...
By experience : i've listened a lot of heavy metal on the past . Many songs have strong lyrics, but this never push me down, and i was always a guy that have respect by others people.
Well...follow your consciousness. It will be your judge. |

humm I wouldn't use it for sure....
I never use samples if they have a negative meaning attached to it...even if its not specified in the sample itself...If i feel some negative vibe in it, I'll just won't use it...
But thats just a personal thing...I don't believe it would lead ppl to a bad trip...I just don't like it |

depends a lot on the track. Since you're saying it's a real clip, i probably would never touch it. But there are so many movies with very related sounds. Surely ppl wouldn't mind using those samples from the movies, right?
kada : don't agree with you. What bout tracks where the video shows people being hit / war / fights etc? it all depends on the premesis, right?
What about a track that protests about the war on Iraq? Wouldn't the sample mentioned above be very powerful?
In the end, it's a very thin line..... |

World is not always happy. I would use them, bad trips are also only trips.
If anyone take drugs he/she have to manage that.
It can be funny implemented in a track.
I had also samples like: "You took to much!"
very subtle, that let people thinking, when they listen to your music.
Very cool is in one Hux-Flux song: "Can you hear this" not very loud.
Trance is experience and war is part of our world at the moment, and i don't know if that ever changes.
Hope so!

EYb, cool examples you post!
Zooter! You point of view is different of mine but understand yours. If the sample is taken from a real death scene it can turns into a a really dark thing, but i wonder: if the people who listen to the sample dont knows that its a real thing i cant see no problem on it.
Well...i think that it depends on the memories of a live.

depends on the story i am attempting to tell with my music, but first impulse is no. then again, it also depends on where i want to take the lkistener with my music. froma dark and evil intro into a fluffy atomic pulse bass kick or vice versa. normally though, i tend to inject positivity into my music. the over all feeling is better for me

In the 60's, people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird and people take Prozac to make it normal. |

So if I go up to someone who is tripping and beat them up then they 'just have to manage that'? Using samples with this kind of intense negaitivity is doing just that to the souls of people listening to it.

If it changes it will be because of the positivity in people like you and me; you do not increase this positivity by making people listen to a recording of someone killing people. The dancefloor is a place where we can not only 'express what we are living' but also describe and create the world we want to live in.

Call me oldfashioned but I believe that ppl dance when they are happy and happiness or joy are playing main role in dancing. So therefore slaughter samples and this kind of 666 maybe speak to some and urge them to dance too.... but I hope it is a minority, since I like to see smiling faces on the dancefloor and not dudes with killing eyes and no girls at all.

kada,
you still haven't answered my question about using videos showing wars etc in heavy metal tracks (lots of them actually!) |

Some screaming would fit to these samples, and some gun noise and helicopters and all that war stuff!

If all the music in the dancefloor was so happy and smiley then the trip wasn't so strong and powerful-
I would'nt put too bad sentences in my tracks but i think that it's much more fun and happy to dance to some happy sound after a scary sound then hear only the happy sounds all the times.
i call it Balance- just like in life if everything was so perfect we wouldn't appreciate it on a daily basis
