I have a bit of prize money from a competition, just enough to buy a Maya. At the moment I'm using my Realktek AC'97 onboard sound (Asus K8N-E motherboard.)

Is the Maya a good step up from the onboard? Would I be able to notice a significant difference in sound quality?

I have this soundcard and its far better than your realtek onboard. First and foremost the sound quality is a lot better + you will have less latency hence maya 44 uses asio 2.0 drivers which is good. So you just go buy it, you can always upgrade when it doesnt feel in your needs anymore. None the less i have no problems with this soundcard n im quite satisfied with it. good luck!

Cool...I'm quite new to connections and routing etc, but lets say I wanted to use Traktor with a hardware mixer.

Would Output 1/2 and 3/4 of the ESI connect to the Channel 1 L/R and Channel 2 L/R of the mixer with 2 mini-stereo to RCA leads?

ie:

ESI Output 1 ---Mini Stereo to RCA cable --- Mixer Channel 1 L/R Input

ESI Output 2 ---Mini Stereo to RCA cable --- Mixer Channel 2 L/R Input?

Also, in terms of sound quality, will I REALLY notice a difference? If I re-exported all my tracks from my sequencer once the card is installed will they simply sound better? Also, once installed I take it in the onboard sound will be disabled so plugging speakers/headphones into my onboard sound line-out or trying to record through the onboard line-in wont do anything?

I've never used a Maya, but for sure you can configure traktor like that threw the MAya sound card.. That's just about what it's for.

But my opinion is save a little more money to buy a more modest sound card.. If you get a little deeper into music you will see that sound card won't fit you for much longer.. I say just buy a better one.           Super Banana Sauce http://www.soundcloud.com/knocz
